The only way it would be bad for boxing is if the majority of the public genuinely looked down upon this kind of thing. Which we don't, we all love a good tear-up at a press conference. It was ****ing fantastic to be honest. Kinda made me laugh when the Klitschkos came out with the statement about it being a 'disgrace to boxing' and how they hate seeing something like that. Yet they were ****in loving it when it was happening, coudln't get enough.
Hate it or love it, this sort of coverage is great for Boxing. When was the last time Boxing hit the front page? Sure, Haye and Chis are clowns but they are creating much needed hype. Let's hope a couple of more tear ups in the pressers happen in the future.
Of course it was good for boxing, people who have not bothered with boxing before are now going to look up who Chisora and Haye are and then they will check out some fights before moving onto guys like Pacquiao and Mayweather before they know it they'll be hooked.
With this little episode and the casual reaction. It really makes you realise how true the "As goes the heavyweight division, so goes boxing" saying is.
My mother in Canada commented on the incident, she even watched the video lol without me mentioning it.
It was definitely good for the heavyweight division and therefore for boxing. I don't care what anyone says, I ****ing enjoyed it. It made me laugh. These things entertain me. The sport would be so much more entertaining if there were more Dereck Chisora's around.
Looks like the press have realised they have found a gold mine in Dereck Chisora. I think they'll follow every step of his from here. Expect them to dig up all past misdemeanors and if he starts winning more the attention will only increase. Nothing better than a controversial winner.
No, it is not - I have had a number of casuals tell me since Saturday that they are just a pair of thugs and it has put them right off boxing. Brits abroad is already a bad tag that this country has developed, this just confirmed a few negative stereotypes for too many people and won't persuade many casuals to watch this over other sports.
i think the most common reaction will be disgust by it all so I don't see how that translates into more people becoming fans.
Possibly in the very short term, i.e. it'll help to sell a fight between Chisora and Haye should that happen and it's raised some temporary publicity for the HW division. In the long term, this stuff is really bad for boxing. The advantage of boxing over crap like MMA is that boxing is dignified - they don't hit each other when they're down, they don't hump each other, they don't fall all over the place grappling each other. However, incidents like this detract from boxing's status as a noble art and make it seem in the public eye more akin to strapping gloves on a couple of animals and throwing them in a ring together.
Well it's a wrap then. Boxing should be outlawed. I mean guys fighting? That's just so darn rare! Someone needs to let those yokels know outside my local that were punching seven bells of **** out of each other. :yikes
