Is Alvarez bigger than Mayweather? Yes.

But he's not the water-logged muscle-bound freak show people make him out to be.

He was clearly towered over by Trout (who is huge) and stands only 5'9" with a 70" reach. Yet, people clamor on about he should move up to middleweight and "pick on someone his own size."

Martinez, Golovkin: they're all 5'10"/5'11" with 72+" reaches. It that a HUGE disparity? No. But it's still significant advantages.

Next up, critics point to how "wide" Alvarez and his frame are. Is there really an admissible way to quantify such a thing?

Anyway, what do you think? When Alvarez was being brought up the professional ranks, the original plan was to keep him at 147.

I really don't think he's that far off.

when he rehydrates he walks at 170 or so, which is why people say he is big...

I use to wrestle so i know the importance of being in a lower weight class where you have advantage so i'm all for it if avaleraz can make 154.

As long as he can make the weight comfortably, Alvarez should stay at JMW.

height doesnt matter. its the weight that separtes these divisions. You think Paul Williams would whoop Mike Tyson because he's taller? Hell NO. Canelo is huge. That cant be disputed. He still keeps it in the rules though so thats all that matters.

Also, he's 22 and is alreayd coming into the ring at 173 pounds so stop with the not far off WW stuff. He'll never ever be close to that and will only get bigger as he gets older

He's a solid 154lb fighter(and for one night only 152) he is a good sized junior middle nothing more nothing less.

The "he's huge for the weight" thing was just some of the Floyd fans on here making excuses when it looked like the fight might not happen.

    he has no choice.

at 160 hell get wrecked as he doesn't have one-punch power at 154. a guy like quillen will toy with him like mosley/winky. he wont fight ggg.

alvarez is an average 154, no better or no worse than all the others contenders there.

Gabriel Rosado as a +400-500 would be the buy of the year.

This, as long as he can make 154 he sits great. If he out grows 154 and has to move up he will be at a disadvantage. He's not a big guy, he's has a stocky build. If he has to face full middleweights these guys will tower over him taller longer reaches. I believe canelo can continue to dominate the junior middleweight division by bringing up welterweights and fighting junior middleweights. As he stands now he's in his optimal division, if he outgrows 154 he will have troubles at 158.

He rehydrates to 172 against trout he is big for junior middleweight in tht regard (note golovkin came in at 170 for a middleweigjt fight)

He has not got good reach or height but his style seems
    To cater to his strengths

While he is not big in terms of height and reach he is undoubtedly very big for the weight. If you are re-hydrating 15+ lbs then you are big for that division. He's stocky and has much thicker legs than most boxers.

When you consider Froch weighted 171lbs in the ring against Abraham and Canelo weighed more than that when fighting Trout that tells you how big Canelo is for his division, when he is as big as guys fighting 2 divisions up from him.

Saul Alvarez will likely end his career as a heavy SuperMiddleweight .

Height is not the only factor to determine size.

Vargas was a big 154 , Winky Wright was massive,

Canelo is a solid 154 nothing more nothing less.

Yes he's pretty big, but Floyd is not a fighter to be intimidated by size, so it won't play a big role, especially as Saul will box.

He's huge for the weight when you consider that he rehydrated to 172 pounds vs Trout.

Angulo rehydrated to 174 pounds though vs Lara

I think it was by choice, to not give weight up to Trout. His team said they don't look to balloon up vs. much lighter Floyd but look to retain speed instead.

At the end of the day, Canelo-Trout never was a physical match nor the weights played an extra pound, Saul stayed smart, defense first, picked his shots well and accurate and controlled the ring IQ, he'll most definitely look for the same, whether it will work is another question though.
