The rounds Schmeling won was mostly Baer coasting, in my humble opinion. It was a rather close- arguably an even- fight by the time of the stoppage, though.

If a rematch happened, Baer would have stopped him much sooner, as good a fighter as Schmeling was..Baer just had his number.

Yeah right, go back and read what I wrote again.

Yeah, because their fight was like Liston-Patterson or Foreman-Frazier.

baer did not have schmeling's number at all.

with Baer being bigger and explosive powerhouse he was always sporadic, hed let shots go then have to rest for a while and recharge for the next outburst. each outburst made an impression but while he was resting schmeling was pounding out a pretty consistent schooling on him.

Had Baer not found that one magic punch that stunned schmeling for that finishing sequence the fight would have continued in the same pattern and baer would have lost like he did against laughran, braddock, Ernie schaff as well as guys scmeling did beat like Risco, uzcundun and Joe Louis who also beat baer.
If baer found that long right hand against anyone hed win. He won fair and square but he had nobody’s number. He landed a winning punch.
