I think that people dont understand what hall of fame is. Silverster Stallone is in hall of fame. One thing is to be a great fighter, and another thing is to be a hofer. I honestly dont know who started all that **** about this one or that one is or is not a hofer, but he had no clue at all. It's sad that people followed him.
Good. Curry finally got in. In today's climate, Kovalev isn't making it in if found guilty unless he does some sdrious cleaning up of his image. I think most of us agree that he's borderline hof material, so that case is enough to keep him out.
ofc, no doubt about it. To be a hofer is more related to be known and beloved, that's all, that's a good thing, I dont know, but not serious, just a place to visit for all people who love boxing to have fun and enjoy, to celebrate. Not to put **** on one fighter or another or to say this one is better than this other one. That's how I see it, you cannot take seriously that, were dolph lundgren introduced in the hall of fame as ivan drago is not something to be angry with, but to celebrate or to enjoy. That's how I see it, I dont know, just my personal opinion.
You're talking about the entertainment category which is totally different. Everyone likes Emmanuel Augustus and he's more well know than a lot of champions, but he isn't hof bound due to not really being world class. McGuigan and Gatti, on the other hand, did just enough in the ring to make it into the hof if coupled with their appreciated public personas.
You're talking about guys in the hall who aren't boxers. Why bring them up? They aren't held to the same standards as the boxers who get in.
What I'm saying is that the filter to enter the hof is not to be the best fighter, but the more well known or beloved. That's why there are non fighters in there, and that's why it is the hall of fame and not the hall of the bests. And I'm fine with that. EDIT: for instance I'm sure that a lot of fighters will get into hof before rigondeaux, even if they are p4p worse fighters. And no problem, that's fine, it's a place for fans, to enjoy, to celebrate, not to hate or compare.
The bottom floor for boxing resume is McGuigan and Gatti, and you'd better be well received publicly if you want in off that kind of resume. Paz, Mikey Ward, Augustus, Cooney--none of them are in.
Man, not everybody will go in there, you have to understand that too. Go to the street and ask the first guy you find who cooney is or who paz is, or even augustus, and you will have your answer about why they are not in there (and propbably never will). Ward I'm sure that sooner or later will get in, his trilogy with gatti was too important not to. It's a matter of time, lochte entered in 2003. I only say that people take this list too much seriously, and that this list imho has not this intention. This list is not a pound for pound list, it's not intended to be that. And I would rather put in there mayorga than rigo. Man, I would love to watch mayorga smoking a big cigar, the size of cincinatti, in the hall of fame. That would be awesome.
His only quality win is a 45 year old Hopkins who was only in the ring to get a payday. Two losses to a fighter moving up in weight. I don’t know if he was ever undisputed in lhw and never won a title outside this division. If he goes on to be undisputed now then I think he should get in this watered down HOF but nothing he has done so far impresses me. I think multi-division champs or champs that are dominant in a division with at least one great win are candidates for the HOF.
you didnt see ward fight1? also can any fighter in this era get into the hall of fame? not pacquiao or floyd included. they are atgs.
