A few years ago I would have given Hopkins a chance but not now. He's finally beginning to show his age, his speed has declined significantly since the Pascal fights and even more so since Tarver.

Kovalev is hardly a flat footed plodder like Pavlik. He has good footwork and cuts off the ring very well and showed with the first knock down against Agnew he does not have to be set to throw bombs like Pavlik or Tito.

You mean Hopkins would clinch, hold, grab, wrestle, throw one punch then come in with his head and clinch or the faking low blows like he has done in several fights? Is that how Hopkins would win? :huh

If he was able to beat him Bhop wouldn't say he won't fight Kovalev, he knows he get's beaten and probably KO'd now.

Yes he beats old Hopkins because he throws way to much for BHOP to win, i would favor prime Hopkins, now no way.

I'm not a Hopkins fan by any means, but if he takes on, and beats Kovalev at 49 years old, he should be declared the GOAT

i can see hopkins very easily off setting everything kovalev does. he's slow of foot but does have heavy hands. bhop will turn him continuously and never allow him to set. when he does set...he'll smother him to take away his offense. bhop can do these things in his sleep as an old man. bhop has more than paid his dues. he doesn't need to fight kovalev...but i believe he said his intention was to unify the 175 division...so if kovalev has a piece of the puzzle...and bhop gets by shumenov (which isn't an easy task)...we may get this fight down the line. i honestly feel stevenson and kovalev should be fighting each other for the chance to face the legendary bhop.

Hopkins has been getting hit with flush power shots in his last few fights. Murat landed a ridiculous left hook when Hopkins was on the ropes.

Kovalev is too much for Hopkins at this point.

Kovalev's trainer used to be in Hopkin's training camp and knows what the old man brings to the table. Kovalev would be ready for him.

Kovalev would be the first guy to finish Hopkins.

If Hopkins fights Stevenson, Stevenson might be the first guy to beat Hopkins, but Bellow proved that movement gives Stevenson some fits, and Hopkins will execute the game plan that Bellow tried to, but on a higher level.

I think Hopkins has a better chance against Stevenson than Kovalev.

If Kov wuz black the brothas would say he's the next coming of Bob Foster. If they think this is another Pavlik or Pascal they going to get a shock of their lives Kov can actually box, not double jab Kelly.

Hopkins is not going to face someone so dangerous at 49. He needs the easy pickings, his health could easily suffer versus a KO4Clev or Adonis. Though I don't think either would stop him, h is just way too tough and canny to get KOed, the damage absorbed may well last with negative effects in retirement - probably already has.

I can't see Hopkins beating Kovalev at this point. He might be able to out-think Stevenson and slow his pace down/make him look stupid, but I can't see him shutting down Kovalev's workrate.

basically, 40something lungs will always lose out versus prime fit pretty good fighter. May outskill for a while, but there will come a time when the lungs cannot keep the brain oxygenated fully, and then its game over, or in Bhps case absorbing damage. NOw, that's no problem if it say Joe Calzags featherfists that mostly miss coming at you. But KO4Clev blows will hurt like hell.
