How is he rated and by whom? Aren't there just as many people discrediting him?

Overrated and underrated have become useless terms in boxing due to the way they're used.

He's 38, tore his knee less than a year ago and relies heavily on his legs to win fights. His time has finally passed. You can't judge him based on his last fight.

No. He is just having injuries and will retire in 2014. I will miss him, but if he can't heal up......................

He's not overrated. No one calls him an ATG or anything.
He is just a fighter that's 'good enough' to beat the best in his era..which isn't a strong era.

Why is this question being asked? Nobody is overrating Sergio. He's not a PPV star. Nobody is calling him the greatest MW ever. He's just an elite boxer who hasn't quite reached ATG status. All things considered he is actually underrated. Considering his looks, attitude, and fighting skills, he should be a bigger star than a prime Oscar. No MW as of today is more skillful than the best version of Sergio. Not Golovkin. Not Quillin. Not Canelo. Nobody from 154 (excluding Floyd) to 160. That's not fanboy talk. That's just being real. Yes, upsets do happen and anybody can be beaten. But if Pacquiao can be held high due to the his speed, power, and heart, I don't see why Sergio shouldn't be praised just the same.

Perhaps rightfully so, it was crushing. Williams was P4P rated at the time after all, and it was off his taking the MW title from a past-prime but much bigger (and hard hitting) Kelly Pavlik. His other wins over rated contenders? Macklin, Chavez and now... Murray. Kind of a brief reign in terms of bouts, though he's enjoyed his status for a nice stretch in actual time. He'll be recognized as the legit champ for the year ended 2010-2013.

    No..

Sometimes he looks brilliant but most of the time he just does enough to get the win.

    Prime martinez was great,

Current pushing 40 martinez not so much.

Overated and underated, like many top boxers
