I think he's being moved along at the right pace, more or less. A Grant fight in September would be a decent step up in terms of quality and physical ability.
That's how I see it too. I compared it on another forum to Pete Radamacher fighting for the heavyweight title in his pro debut. He may look like a threat to some, but he needs experience.
He is being brought along in the exact same manner as Gerry Cooney was from 1980-1982 and we are going to get the same result with Mitchell only I don't think he is near as good as Cooney was and won't be able to almost last the distance when they cash him out against a Klitschko.
He needs to be brought along slower if anything, let the guy mature for the next 5-6 years fighting some lower level journeymen, let's not rush things here.
I did a post last year http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=364624 America not having a successful HW for some time. Possible reasons? America have not had a dominant world champ for some years now and after looking at the current scene, I started looking at possible reasons. Possibly Americas beat HW prospect at this time is Deontay Wilder who is 20-0 (20KOs). Looks impressive, but who has he fought? Now look at how much tougher the European HWs are matched on the way up Tyson Fury in 17 fights has fought undefeated 16-0 Pajkic, undefeated 14-0 Chisora, undefeated 13-0 Nascimento, undefeated 12-0 Power and McDermott twice Derek Chisora in 17 fights has fought undefeated 14-0 Fury, undefeated 16-0 Helenius, D Williams and S Sexton twice Robert Helenius in 17 fights has fought L Brewster, A Levin, S Peter, S Liakhovich, D Chisora and undefeated 12-0 G Tony Could it be because of soft matching on the way up, why American HWs have tended to crumble when facing decent European opposition who seem to be matched alot tougher on the way up? What do you think? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Since this thread Chisora challenged V Klitschko and gave a good account of himself and T Fury has beaten M Rogan who had beaten M Skelton when he was European champ, it shows the form. If you look at how slow it has been for Seth having had 26 fights and still not doing much, then look at David Haye who gets alot of critisism but in 26 fights had won the WBC WBA WBO Ring CW titles and the WBA HW titles and beaten some good comp. I think alot of this is down to how HW fighters are moved slowly in America and given a big status before producing the goods, rather than just being matched in tough fights on the way up to prepare them
oh dear.. He is joking. He said in another thread Denis Boytsov managers should not rush with him for getting decent opponents or just opponents with pulse.
Ibragimov followed by Witherspoon is hardly too slow for someone that turned pro in 2008. Plus these wins put him into position for fights that will be even sterner tests and some of these will be "must take" fights because at his advanced age of starting a pro career.
