Seemingly everyone he trains he improves and gets the best out of them. And everyone who leaves him regresses. He's a brilliant trainer. And with his Hall of famer Dad Barry Mcguigan popping in and out of gym as a mentor giving advice, it's a great set up. The Mcguigans have real boxing knowledge. They may have done some shady things outside of the ring with money. But Shane has to be up there with the top 5 trainers in the world right now at least imo, and arguably the best.
In addition to the other world champions he's trained. He took Taylor to unified champion in 16 fights, harvesting the scalps of a 24-0 Rougarou, 29-1 Postol, 19-0 Baranchyk, 39-5 Miguel Vazquez, 22-0 Ryan Martin, and a 15-0 Ohara Davies along the way. Taylor lost 2 of his next 4 fights after leaving him in most people's eyes. He took CBS to British, Commonwealth, European and world champion in just 19 fights He took a 12-0 to 18-0 Okolie to European and world champion in their six fights together. Okolie lost within 2 fights of leaving him Who beat Okolie? The McGuigan trained CBS
Derrick James Have the Undisputed champion at 154 in Jermell Charlo and the IBF/WBC/WBA WW champion in Errol Spence. If Errol wins July 29th that’ll be two current undisputed champions further widening the gap between Derrick James and the field.
Cant disagree. It takes a great fighter to make a great trainer, and then the rest follow. Davison had his shot when Fury came along and then shows he is only as good as the fighter, as some established fighters seem to get well messed up under his tutelage. Goosen is the same and even gets the HOF for it. Gotta laugh...
He is undoubtedly one of the best coaches in the world, however, due to his success he gets first dibs on the most talented amateurs coming through the UK system.
