his resume is not that impressive but the two wins over oscar and vargas cement it for me.

    Absolutely.

He may not have an amazing list of high class names...but at lightweight he was probably one of the ten best fighters to ever touch that weight class. He also beat Oscar twice, and fought all sorts of avoided fighters. And he kicked Vargas' ass.

Didn't he KO some 31 out of his 32 first fights? Thats pretty good. Beating Oscar twice is a pretty good accomplishment too.

I'd imagine him at the lower end of a 200.

    Yeah, he's a great fighter.

I am a Shane fan, and that sounds reasonable to me.

Hypothetically, if he became the first to beat Mayweather, how much would that do for elevating his legacy in your eyes?

I'm just not convinced just yet that Shane is an ATG in my eyes. He's beaten some good fighters but he's come up short to some good fighters as well. Maybe if he would have at least taken one of the Wright and Forrest fights rather than loosing both, I might consider him, but right now, NO.. Just my opinion.

At least Shane dared to be great and demanded immediate rematches with both, something which cannot be said for most fighters in the present day and age. Also, consider, Wright and Forrest were both fighters stuck on the outside looking in--until Shane fought them.

Plus, Shane's work at 135 is vastly underrated by some.

I think Shane is an excellent fighter. Perhaps if he had fought at 140 for a spell instead of jumping straight to 147, he would have been enhanced, but on the flip side, 140 was a very strong division around that time, so he may have gotten whipped a few times, maybe not?

I think there is too much bias toward fighters from previous era's, much like there is with other sports, but much more to boxing (I have been watching boxing habitually for around three years, and in passing for about another five).

I think a win over Cotto would have just about sealed it, and it was a fight I think he should have won - he certainly has the style to beat Cotto.

True Shane did put Forrest and Wright on the map. IMO he should have stayed at 135/140. he was unstoppable at that weight. Would have loved to see him and PBF get it on at that weight

To not consider him as an ATG would be a shame.

That would be a huge scalp...if it happened at WW i'd see shane as arging with the guys from 102-125, something like that.

But the fact of the matter is you never know until you sit down and try to work it all out. I'd be surprised to find out he was outside of the 200 at the moment, and if he beat Mayweather, I could see him around 110.

The time of life he's at makes the win impressive, and Mayweather is in my 40 - but then Mayweather was at his very best some two weights south.
