Better? I thought that this thread was about "greater"? Of course, better is a part of the argument but it's not what I was primarily considering in answer to the question "greatest". Regardless, I did a hundred recently, and Mosley wasn't seriously considered.
better or greater either of the two i for once cant name 170 better or greater fighters than Mosley in his prime he was amazing and at one point he was considered the best fighter in the world.
Probably 200 guys have been considered the best in the world since the game began. SO this isn't really an argment. As to the number of fighters that were "great in their prime"...maybe 700? At a guess? What makes Sugar Shane Mosley greater than Pete Herman, specifically?
im not familiar with Herman and never saw him fight so i cant talk about him .you probably have Ricardo Lopez in your top 50 a great fighter but who did he beat that was so good? and theres no way Mosley is 100 places bellow him.
I said possibly top 90, I would have to sit down and review 90 fighters careers to actually be able to claim that and I cant be bothered. Thats why im unsure of wether he is an ATG or not cos im unsure myself if he is infact top 90 like Im guessing he probably is. Besides where do you draw the line on an ATG list. is the 101 greatest fighters ever an ATG? How about 102... Or is it drawn at 50?
Then how do you feel you're qualified to make a statement to make a statement like "i for once cant name 170 better or greater fighters than Mosley in his prime"? You don't know enough fighters to truly judge, especially past fighters, so it doesn't really matter. As it is, I have Mosley higher than McGrain does for sure.
I had Lopez at 52. I would have him slightly higher now. Think about what i've said - there have been hundreds and hundreds of fighters who have achieved Shane Mosley's p4p status. Ordering them is not the easist of tasks. I won't insist that I am the last word. Herman was a two time Bantamweight champion of the world. He first held the title aged just twenty. He has numerous losses - eye trouble forced him into early retirement, and many of his fights were fought with only partial vision - but i you're taking peak for peak I would guess he was the better of the two. You see the problem? I don't mean to sound condescending, you are a fine poster, but there's a guy here who merits consideration for any top 200 and you don't know who he is...
I wouldn't draw a line at any given number. I have 101 men on my list. Benny Lynch was #101. He is a great, great, great fighter, lost the title on the scales and then another battle with alcoholism. He is the greatest fighter ever from my country (Scotland). I don't need to assign a number to Mosley to know he is great, which he certainly is. Incidently, I am a fan.
Whats the highest Shane reached in p4p rankings? In the last decade how many people has reached that? I think there has been 3 people in the last decade to reach no.1 which would mean roughly 30p4p #1 over the last 100 years.
what does that have to do with anything do i have to know every fighter that ever lived to have an opinion? if Herman was so good why doesnt nobody has him on theyre lists or even talks about him?and did you or him saw him fight?
Nope, but I also feel 180 is quite a bit too low. I don't judge purely on resume. He'd be in my top 100.
its your opinion and i respect that but for me Mosley should be much higher than 180.when you have Lopez higher than 50 a great fighter but without a great resume and Mosley 180 i dont think thats fair.
You don't have to know every fighter who ever lived. Every champion is worthy of consideration and every two-time champion is a must for consideration. You disagree? I've never seen him fight. Never seen Greb fight either. I have him at #4.
