One thing we have to say about Briggs he is a good puncher and he has quick hands, he is a big guy and a year younger...Is he the best Vitali has faced in his comeback? Is Briggs a danger?
I would say he is in less danger then most of his other fights...you can say that maybe for the first 2 minutes..he is in a bit danger then in the first two minutes of his other recent fights...but after that the danger in this fight drops to about zero..hence overall..he is in less danger...
2 minutes is harsh, even this Briggs has at least 2 rounds of stamina. Besides, how could anyone be less dangerous than Kevin Johnson & Albert Sosnowski?
He's dangerous only if he can land a clean punch on Vitali. If he cannot land a big shot the rest of his game is not even adequate, let alone good, to do the things necessary to come out with a win. By far his biggest chance is if Vitali ages overnight and has zero reflexes.
I like what Briggs is doing in training. Hes going to give it a go. He knows this is his last shot, and he knows the only way he can win, is to bring serious pressure. He is definitely a threat for a few rounds.
I think that we might soon be at the stage where anyone is a threat to Vitali. He's fighting time more than any opponent.
Yeah I agree. Briggs has never really been serious about boxing, but hes trying to get into good shape for this fight. He knows Vitali is there for the taking.
Vitali is there for the taking? Have you been watching his fights lately. Peter, Gomez, Arreola, Johnson, ans Sosnowski won a combined two rounds! Personally I thought Vitali took it easy and did not prep as hard as he normally would in the Sosnowski fight. Johnson was in fine shape and has a very good jab. Yet he had trouble landing his jab on Vitali. Vitali made him miss plenty. Arrolea tried non stop pressure. That did not work either. Briggs has neither the jab or stamina. Briggs is the best puncher of Vitali's come back opponents. He has a good puncher's chance vs. most but in this match he is up against a guy with a great chin. Vitali is not easy to hit. He's smart, and hardly stationary.
That's it. Vitali can slip 20% and he's still brings a ton more to the table than the 3rd tier guys Briggs has on that dossier. And a lot more footwork than he's accustomed to. I'll be interested to see how long Briggs can hold those hands up against the incoming volume of punches this guy throws. I always thought he was one of those guys that drops his hands at like 45 second intervals as the round goes by. So, at 2:15 into the round, he can get clipped. He also holds that right hand low. It is not a big flaw against shorter fighters but he's in there with a tall guy that throws hooks. When Briggs starts to react to feints, he leans way over like he wants to have the punch miss by a foot and not an inch. He'd better not do that teeter totter thing against this guy.
Briggs is still a heavy hitter with fast hands, and I thought Vitali looked really bad against Sosnowski.. so yeah, I'd say Shannon is a threat. Thing about Briggs is, he knows he's very slow on his feet and has limited stamina, so he'll keep his hands low to draw the opponent in. I wonder how that works out against Vitali, who should be able to reach him from a relatively safe distance. Hope to see a stoppage in this one, and not from injuries.
