Not trying to pick on you.....but Briggs has "huge power '" ? What quality opponents has he EVER knocked out ? Seriously, he has a gazillion cans on his record and every time he has stepped up he looks like ****. And the Tame Wolf is a one hit wonder bum of the month type fighter............ This is laughable, look what Lemmie or even Moorer did to a far fresher Botha......... Anyway, Briggs is a likeable character and I have no problem with him making some dough before fading into the sunset, but competitive the fight will not be.
I appreciate the non-attack mode .... Liakovitch ( spelled wrong) , Mercer, badly rocked Lewis several times ... the overall record of not just stopping men but flattening them ... wait and see. If he manages to land a fast on early he will rock Vitali like he has not been hit since round 1 v.s. Sanders ... a HUGE if but still, if ..
There are two things I like about Briggs, although I believe his chances are not great. One is that hes tall and throws a long power righthand, and two the fact that he will try and win the fight early. Those make him a threat in my opinion, albeit for a short amount of time. I think Briggs knows he has to fight like he did against Lennox Lewis, so hes going to have to pressure hard and early. Again, if I was training the guy, I would get him in good physical condition and put him in five six round gym wars everyday to get him used to fighting a fast paced fight. Its his only shot.
The thing is, even at his absolute best preparations in the training aspect is all he can ever hope to do is be relatively close to this opponent. He cannot be his equal and he cannot be better. It is just a huge disadvantage just like chin/handspeed/movement and the ton of every other issue has to be measured in any kind of match. His chances would be much improved if he was fighting a guy that had a history of not being prepared and not being in top condition for fights. In this match, I know Sdunek will have Vitali ready. So no matter what Briggs does, it's a Vitali advantage.
Briggs would have been more of a challenge to Vlad than Vitali. Vitali will win by late round stoppage.
Vitali is not young. He will be more vulnerable against a guy like Briggs than he's ever been. It's really more on Briggs to fight the right type of fight. Briggs is not going to have a chance in a paced boxing match. He's got to turn it into world war 3 and take his best shot
Vitali is really slow now. his reflexes are quite gone too. he has never got any other defense but his reflexes. hes also a powder puncher. he wont hurt Briggs untill hes gassed with his robotic 1-2 combinations. He looked bad when he had to come forward in the fight with Johnson. Johnson who isnt really known as a big puncher busted his face up with few jabs. Briggs will try it a similar way. let Vitali come, then just butt in when he thinks he lands. It will be a snoozefest unless Briggs has some success. But if Vitali cant raise the ante i think Briggs can pull out the upset. I highly doubt a performance like in the Sosnowski fight will be enough he´ll have to walk through some big shots at least then. its not a good style matchup for the old Klit.
i like this fight...if briggs does come with an all or nothing, go out on his shield attitude, i wonder if vitali's pride will allow him to weather the storm..i like vitali cos vitali like a fight, he likes to rumble, he can get drawn into a shootout...(incidentally thats why i favoured haye over vitali rather than super cautious wlad...)....if vitali gets drawn into a gunfight, i think he has the power of briggs but not the speed, so who knows....?? i still think vitali wins this, and by stoppage, but i would not be surprised if briggs were to triumph early.....we think we KNOW how far gone shannon is, but do we know how vitali will cope IF the big bombs land early...its not happened for a looong time....
Perhaps it's because the combined age of Vitali and Briggs exceeds that of all but a handful of Classic posters, therefore qualifying them as "old time" fighters. :yep
I had a look at the Briggs training video, there is no way he will beat Vitali he is too slow with not enough stamina, he has a one round chance only and a small chance at that.
Two things. Vitali is seldom hit by lead right hands, and Briggs game plan should have been to go for broke vs. Ibragimov, and Laychovich early. Briggs landed the bomb in the 12th vs. Laychovich, but my point is recent history shows Briggs does not go to war early vs guys who can hit back. The fans wanted to see Haye, Valuev, or Soils, but all three declined a title match and a big pay day, which is why Briggs is getting the shot.
You see a 39 years old lasting that long even against a 39 years old Vitali Klitschko ? Both of his stoppage losses were to older men than himself (by more than 5 months) inside 3 and 5 rounds . So in his current age he is going to last 8 against Vitali ?
