Was listening to showbizz the adult yesterday and surprisingly the majority of the forum there were in agreement that Porter brought more money and was more known than Crawford. But what is this forum’s opinion? Porter had a PPV that supposedly did 300k buys with Spence, is he thus a bigger draw than Crawford?
Not in any traditional sense, no. He may be well-liked and probably does put more asses in seats, but he isn't some crazy popular crossover star or anything. His standing in the sport is rightfully seen as below where Bud is now (below him on any sane p4p list, and the WBO strap outranks the Silver, if certainly not its green cousin), and negotiations would be dictated on that fulcrum.
Nah he isn't the A side just because he did 300K PPV's with Spence, it was Spence who was the draw not Porter though Porter as a fighter that gives good performances brings some value. Saying Porter is the A side is like saying Chisora is the A side because he did 532K ppv buys vs Whyte. Nobody is paying Chisora PPV money to fight some unknown while Whyte is pretty much guaranteed to be on PPV even against a relative unknown like Rivas.
Porter lost to Kell, Danny, Keith, and Errol. He should have lost to Ugas. He's very likable outside of the ring save for a two-faced moment when he said he was Team Pacquiao, but was caught on camera rooting for Broner during the fight. In the ring, his mauling style is hideous. No, he's no A-side to Crawford. That's just ridiculous.
Not at all. He does have a fanbase, though. Certainly more so than most of Crawford’s opponents. He is also a top welter. Presumably both are things that should entice Arum and Crawford into really trying to make this fight. Crawford needs an opponent of this level at welter. Porter, Garcia, Ugas. I’d sogn for one of those in a heartbeat.
Crawford vs Brook peaked at 2,078,000 viewers, Porter vs Ugas peaked at 2,197,000 viewers. Crawford vs Khan did 150k and vs Kavaliauskas did less than that. Porter vs Spence did over double. I could be off on some of these, feel free to fact check. IMO, neither are the A side. Porter would be the best fighter Crawford has faced, and Crawford desperately needs to fight a guy at Porter's level or higher. Hope the fight comes happens, I like both guys and want Crawford to do well.
We cant have it both ways. Either we attract casual / youtube fans and put up with DKSAB opinions or we dont and boxing withers back into obscurity
Exactly, as this guy says. Crawford has the belt, the prestige, the WW ranking and the P4P ranking. If Porter wants This he'll accept the fight.
