I thought it was £10m? Either way, even £1m would be far too much for Fraudley!

The fight comes on tonight and Millions will watch ,don't they make money this way also. Its like this some new movies break even at box off ,but make much more on the back end ,am I'm the only one that understands this.

    Yo Fools

    Showtime Is CBC

    Here are their revenue

    Revenue

    Increase US$ 15.284 billion (2013)
    Increase US$ 14.089 billion (2012)

Mayweather has just carved himself a small slice off this huge turkey.
I don't think you have to worry your little heads about Showtime losing money. That would just make your little heads hurt.

I'm sure Showtime are not as stupid as people think, yes I don't think their jumping for joy as I think when they signed Floyd they were expecting numbers in the region of 1.25+
but I think they will try to push for a few bigger fights in 2015 that can do better numbers like a Pacquiao, Alvarez rematch or even Cotto rematch for the middleweight crown all 3 of those could do big numbers.
a Khan fight could sell to if it was PPV in UK as well and Floyd takes a cut of that too, as a few UK ppv have done 1m buys at the equivalent of $26 so that is quite a few million their too.
Less just say if Showtime were struggling to break even I think they will make up for it in 2015 as I don't expect Floyds oppenant to be lower than fighting some of the most marketable fighters in the sport.

Boxing didn't just start a few years ago.

Momus was right in bringing up the Shelby debacle.

It's a HUGE success for everyone involved. The big money is made illegally, in cahoots with the casinos. For example, they agree that the judges will score the Canelo and Maidana fights a Majority Decision, and they make huge money on the idiots who bet on the Unanimous Decision.

They're not idiots. If they make these fights and pay Floyd that much, they're making money.

I guess a good question might be . Why is the US paying 78bucks while the rest of the world is paying half that ?

When that small Montana town threw up tons of cash for Jack Dempsey to defend the title there. Forget who he fought. But the town went completely broke as the company which essentially held its fate through business ponied up Dempsey's massive purse (300K I think it was, in the 19-teens) and went broke because of it, having to leave the town and turning it into a ghost town. Tickets were extremely high in price and the town collectively decided to storm the fences moments before the fight started as opposed to actually buying tickets.

No. It's like how when a casino pays more for a card than the gate makes. They might loose a couple of hundred grand, but if they drew in a whale from Japan who loses a million dollars at craps they made a profit. To even get showtime pay per views you need a showtime subscription. Showtime probably got a couple hundred thousand new subscribers when they landed Mayweather. Plus, having Mayweather on their network meant that other big names were willing to sign on. They probably got a lot of Haymon and Goldenboy fighters to move to showtime from HBO. Even if they lose money on Mayweather's fights, they probably made a profit just by having him on their network.
