Showtime were trying to build a UFC model to capture the market.there were rumours that HBO would be out of the fight game in 10 years so HAYMON and ESPINOZA had this brain wave idea to create an empire.the KID CHOC debacle plus the MAYWEATHER vs MAIDINA fight put a halt to that..HBO beat there enemy before going into battle..!

They aren't paying half that. Most of the rest of the world doesn't have pay per view. The **** is on regular television.

This reminds me of an article I read from around the early 2000s comparing Showtime and HBO's boxing ratings. They showed a slight advantage to HBO but Showtime was only spending about half as much. HBO had most of the stars signed up for multiple year contracts whereas Showtime would only contract for the single fights that they wanted. Thus they didn't have to pay through the nose to watch Roy Jones fight bums. It looks like now they have changed their tune and are content to sign Mayweather to a multi-fight contract and watch him fight bums.

Boxing needs to get rid off the PPV model,Boxers should be more active.

Boxing is a sport where the best compete about 2times a year, and even then it's usually handpicked opponents.

All major sports we get to see the stars in weekly basis, and competing against the best.
    Not handipicking their opponents.

Usain Bolt can't choose who he wants to run against.Nadal can't say don't bring Djokovic to this year Us Open,Woods can't say i don't want to play golf againts Mcilroy and Mickelson.Lebron James don't go to NBA office and complains he have to play against Spurs come this season.Barcelona will not complain to UEFA at the championsip league finals they have to play against Real Madrid

How Many people would watch Bolt race against bums one or two times a year?

Nadal playing tennis against world number 20 couple of times a year, and saying hi is the best?

Woods going to the majors and skipping the whole year because Mickelson would play this year.

Lebron James and Cavaliers demanding they should play against Bucks this year only, because Lebron have proved himself already and people still would watch.

Barcelona playing against La Galaxy because it would be huge money in US PPV?

Boxing is so screwed it's funny, and here we are.defending these primadonnas.

Yes Boxing is grueling for your body etc..but lots of sports are demanding for your body.

I don't expect Boxers fight every weekend, but for godsakes atleast 5-6 times a year, this would open boxers for huge endorsment deals and more publicity.stop protecting their 0.people will not care if you had lost or not, people care about good product and entertaiment.and especially seeing best competing against the best.and if i'm correct in sports your goal is to find out who is best?

Boxing is not sport, boxing is circus and politics.

No man should earn 32millions for competing just once,Lebron is bigger star than Floyd and Lebron plays 82 games+playoffs and earns samekind of money.

That's maybe one of the reason why boxing is screwed.the product has to change.

Don't forget the other Audley Harrison farce.

First he destroyed boxing on the BBC then PPV on SKY. (Although it's unfortunately back)

I'd prefer the fighters ripping off the corps and promoters, than the corps and promoters ripping off the fighters. Get that money. He's getting punched in the face, he should be paid well.

    Anyway.

    2.2 M + 850k + 900k + 800k = 4,750,000

Which is an average of 1.18 million a fight. They've had 4,750,000 buys, a ton of subscriptions, a new era of Showtime Boxing, and more ESPN/Nationwide Coverage than ever before

    They're doing fine.
