Is Solis being underestimated?

"These Cuban" win their first medal when they are 19 and 20 years old, and not long ago the "western talent" has the same regime than Cuba has, still Cuba beat up on then, we are not talking medieval time here or anything like that, Lewis was koed by a guy that was not even the best in Cuba, Gonzalez, and Savon, Balado, Stevenson and Milian would had done very good in the prof, specially Stevenson and Milian, they fought in a era that the only diffrence with the pro was the amount of rounds, no headgear and a couple more oz on their gloves, and they ko almost every opponent, imagine less padding, Cuba through out history has done very well in sports, it didn't matter which one, Chess we right up there with the best and we have the only latin World Champ, JR Capablanca, the first Olympic Champ, sword and pistol master, Ramon Font, we have the second Latin World Champ in boxing, Eligio Sardiñas you all know him by Kid Chocolate, after him Luis m. Rodriguez, kid gavilan, Jose Legra, Ultiminio Ramos, Kid Paret, Napoles (in a time that was only one Champ for weight class and no jr in between), etc.. and after 50+ years (do to Castro regime) Casamayor, Gomez, Hurtado, Gamboa, Rigondeaux, Hernandez, and they keep coming, so I don't c why not they can't produce Champs, history is on our side and they are here now, and more are on their way, oh the first none white american that play in the Majors Leagues was Cuban too. Please do a little research before you talk about "these Cubans"

It has nothing to do with Solis, IMO he is been disrespectful to his fans and heritage, it has to do with every Cuban, after all he didn't said Solis, "these Cubans" that is what he/she wrote, I just gave him a little b of history and present, I think it will do some good, what do you think?

I like Solis.

And I think its a bit of a myth that you have to be ripped to shreds to be in shape for boxing, some people just won't be.

 

And some people could be if they had any discipline and respect for themselves and their paying fans instead of just trying to stick around long enough to "cash out".

 

I am quite aware of Cuban sports heroes, I used to compete in middle distance running and admired Alberto Juanorena and Anna Quirot. But the fact is that in amateur boxing, unlike most Olympic sports, many of the best turn pro after winning one medal. If Ali , Foreman, Frazier and Holmes would have stayed amateurs, who knows how big Teofilo Stevenson would have been. Same for the recent amateur era and Lennox and Wlad.

Boxing changes quite a bit anyway from amateur to pro, headgear, longer rounds, different emphasis in scoring. A great amateur pedigree can be an indicator of great things to come in the pros, or not. Povetkin and Harrison had their amateur stardom, they would never beat a Klitschko brother. Solis hasn't done anything in the pros to suggest he will.

 

I think you r missing the point, first, Cuban boxers win their medals young, if not for the regime they would jump to the pro, second we can't do nothing about the past, but the defectors are getting younger and they have more support now than 10 or 15 years ago, remember that athletes from all over the World come here to compete, they could bring their family if the chose and after the event is over, they comeback to their country, not the Cubans, they have to deal with the cultural shock, language and been apart from family and friends, and on top of that, perform, it is a lot more pressure for the Cuban athlete, and everybody knows it but nobody mention it.

The Solis power is also nothing to speak of, either. Vitali will be all OVER this guy..

 

Solis is a fat lazy bum, even if by some miracle he comes to the fight in shape he still will lose.

Vitali wins by Brutal KO in 4 or less, probably less.

 

I wish for Solis to win, but if he is not serious he is going to get hurt.

Yeah, I think so. I slightly favor him over Vitali. Solis will win if he keeps a good workrate and puts rounds in the bag and doesnt just stay in that shell for too long. Vitali will create the openings for Solis, Solis just has to take advantage unlike most of Vitalis opponents. Overall, he is more technically sound than Vitali.

 

When was the last time anyone put "rounds in the bag" against Vitali?

Posters on this board might be underestimating Solis. But NOT Vitali, that's not how he works, Solis will definitely not be underestimated.

I think the only way Solis wins is if Vitali simply gets old overnight. Vitali will be almost 40 on fight night, and it happens to everyone, just look at Fedor.

However, judging Vitali on his last performance, and just the fact that I don't think Vitali would be one to fight if he wasn't 100%, I think the chance of Vitali aging in the ring on March 19th is an extremely unlikely one.
