He didnt get up in Marquez' face and start talking **** to him like he did with every other guy he fights. In fact, he showed respect for him. Not that there is anything wrong with that but this is not the Floyd that I know.
Did you not hear the speech Nacho gave on the mic? He spent more time congratulating Floyd on being such a great athlete than he did talking about his own pupil. It was quite strange, he even leaned over to shake Mayweather's hand. Mayweather would have been a complete douche bag to then get up in Marquez's face and shout him down. Nacho: "Marquez and I have always had great admiration for you".
Marquez is Mayweather's friend, that's well known. I know they both trained together in similar gyms and have a lot of respect for one another. That's why Mayweather gave him a great shot by signing this fight since Marquez seriously deserves a big fight and good money after all he has done. He also has a chance to hit the jackpot big time if he wins.
I now have six of his fights on my computer, including a fight with Kevin Kelley back in 2002. I've seen him fight numerous times now, a few times live, and I'm a great admirer of his. I think he is the perfect model for what a fighter should be. Go in there and give it your all. He never wilted against Guzman, and he always looks for the knockout finish. It's damn hard not to like Humberto Soto, and I now consider myself a follower of his. :good To me, he's a Featherweight inclination of Antonio Margarito, losing fights early on and then slowly improving. He just doesn't cheat to gain the upper hand, and I think he's a little more polished. Just slightly.
Thanks for the insight. I don't think Nacho believes his man can win the fight. In the event Marquez somehow comes out victorious keep a close look in the eyes of his trainer.
Nacho has always been like that, I didn't see him talk down on Pac or other opponents Marquez won either. If his trainer doesn't believe his guy has a shot he wouldn't have allowed him to sign it.
Besides the fact Nacho is one of the best trainers ever and has the #2 P4P fighter in the world to work with. As if he doesn't have a game plan he thinks can win the fight. JMM would surely have consulted with Nacho before they took it as well!
I know it sounds ridiculous, but what other conclusion can I come to after watching 24/7 and then the press conference earlier today? Nacho has expressed concern about Marquez not being fast enough for a fighter of Mayweather's calibre. It was silly to go on record with **** like that. And then today Nacho gives a heartfelt speech on the microphone about how talented a fighter Floyd Mayweather is, and how he and Marquez have admired him for a while. This isn't common practice, not at all. Perhaps Nacho thinks his pupil can win the fight, but he isn't certain of it - of that I'm sure.
Perhaps after Nacho made so many bad decisions regarding Chris John and others, he has finally decided to let go? I do kind of withdraw my statement though after thinking about it. Nacho probably thinks his man has a chance at a victory, but unlike many trainers who come out and say, "I'm certain of victory", Nacho really doesn't seem certain at all. When Marquez fought Barrera, he said something along the lines of "We'll win the fight because I simply have the better fighter". I don't remember him giving a speech about Manny Pacquiao at their press conferences either.
I honestly think that the two like each other, Floyd and JMM that is. Its not the first time that Floyd hasnt been loud and combative before a fight. I know that many wont want to admitt it but Floyd dont really start talking crap about people unless he feels slighted.
