His style is the athletic RJJ type that ages quickly and his punch resistance is less than iron. I suspect he is done at the highest level. Shame because he is my favourite welterweight and the 2014-2017 version would beat everyone today imo
Always had my doubts about Spence, and although I haven't watched the fight..it's pretty clear judging from the reaction on this forum that he wasn't particularly dominant as many expected. It also adds yet further evidence that if Brook didn't have all the problems he did in the lead-up that he'd have beaten Spence comfortably. He proved it in that fight up until round 7, it was close..but Brook was certainly ahead. I've always believed that Spence isn't all he's cracked up to be. He's just never had the movement, he's always slow..his feet have been his weakness. He needs his opponent to freeze and stand still so he can land.. Think he could wipe out 154? Think again.
THis wasn't the fight that had me getting the overrated vibe about Spence. It's the Brook fight and few others i have seen. He just seems slow and robotic to me. He's just big for the weight that's his great attribute. Other that that he doesn't really have anything special.A committed body puncher but reaching Pac's body and you will eat 2 or 3 counters in a row before you can blink.
Crawford definitely has the ability to turn him and move. I doubt Crawford has Porter's high energy gas tank though. They will definitely wait until Crawford is a bit older to fight him. Spence would fold Thurman in half. And Spence would beat Pacquiao fairly comfortably. One thing I've noticed is that Spence isn't all that accurate with the head shots. I noticed that against Garcia as well. Jaron Ennis will probably be the guy to take Spence out in a couple of years. Spence talked of moving up to face Williams at 154. He would definitely get his **** pushed in if he fought Williams.
This fight has nothing to do with where Spence is rated and had everything to do with the fact that Porter was not intimidated and came right after Spence from the opening bell. At the end of the day it wasn't enough and he should be grateful for his iron chin because he took a shot that would have ended the night for many other welterweights. The knock down was a very critical point in the fight.
Decent point but Spence was being made out to be a welter version of Mike Tyson which he did not live up to, no fighter could have come forwards v a prime Mike and made the final bell at all.
