135 from FW is a good leap though... And against a fighter of that quality? Then again, I can never tell when you're being serious  but even if you arent, Sal would've had a decent shot of it, I think. His standing (especially if it followed a uni w/ Eusebio) would've been thoroughly remarkable. Fighter of the Decade, without a question. Even if he had hung it up before the mid-way point of the 1980s, as it's said he was looking to do.

I know the common arguments in favor of Arguello or Sanchez, of course.

    Arguello's devastating power
    Sanchez' iron chin
Arguello's pinpoint accuracy, straighter shots. And somewhat overly methodical style.
Sanchez' boxing skills. And his tendency to get hit despite his skills.
    Arguello's slow feet
    Sanchez' excellent movement
    etc

Personally I prefer Sanchez over Arguello at feather.

But if we're talking about Arguello-Sanchez at lightweight it's a different scenario.
I never liked these kind of hypothetical match-ups.
We have never seen Sanchez above feather, we don't know how comfortable he would be at that weight etc.

It's too theoretical, in my opinion.

    1. Robinson is the greatest WW (& p4p) fighter ever.
    2. Leonard is the best WW of the modern era that has all of his career on film.
    3. Pryor is no match for Leonard, he`d get stopped in the championship rounds after being outboxed & made to look silly for the majority of the fight.

    And vice versa.

Robinson would rightfully be the favourite though ;)

Nah. Arguello would time him down the stretch and knock him out.

Which I think is a ****ing disgrace, one fight fair enough, but TWO fights ?... even after the first was apparently so good & close... there is no excuse for that IMO, none at all :-(

What really pisses me off is they actually mulled over it before deciding, 'Nah' with an apparent shrug. I believe it was in an article TheGreatA posted some time back, but I know it's there because I could never possibly forget it. We lose out on numerous Robinson fights at Welterweight by a couple of mere years. A ton of Gavilan's WW run is on film from the early-mid 1950s, which is why we've got a very good amount of footage of Robinson as a legit middleweight during the same time.
