Ray Leonard was an all time top great fighter ... no question but the argument has to be made that Robinson was tops ... he was one of the very best two handed punchers, he had an all time great chin and ability to absorb punishment and bounce back, he was blazing fast, incredibly tough ... he could box and punch .. what can you say ?

Agreed. Though Leonard may have beaten individually better fighters , he doesn't come close to Robinson in consistency and overall caliber of opposition.
That's wear Robinson shades Leonard .
Leonard's inactivity cost him, and it should.

Look I am a huge Ray Leonard man and believe at his very best he was the best fighter of the second half pf the 20th Century P4P .. I feel he would;d have been an exceptionally tough match up for anyone .. like you said, it's just tough to compare based on the longevity ..

I'm a big Leonard fan myself. He is a personal hero. But if one cannot point out bad points about a hero, one loses all credibility.
Leonard was a extremely talented fighter at welterweight, the only fighter I believe would have a good chance of beating Robinson at the weight prime vs prime .
But he left a lot of meat on the bone. The eye injury was a good reason. But the rest of the reasons were not good , and he shouldn't get a pass for.

I'm sure i missed some. But surely few will disagree if somebody puts him in his top 5-10.
For my consideration; i rank Robinson, Charles, and Holyfield higher. Evander lacks a punch and all that juice stuff, but for me he has the total package and his ability to adjust his stayle is kinda unique in last 30-40 years.

Not really arguing where Evander should be ranked, but it’s insane how guys talk about him in the Best I Faced interviews that The Ring did.

People rave about his overall skill and his ring IQ. He may be the most savvy and adaptable heavyweight ever in addition to being the best cruiserweight of all time even before he reached maturity.

Prime SRR and Ezzard Charles could probably argue for that.
If I want to stretch it a bit further, same goes to the black murderers row.

He’s one of them. I don’t think there is just one. There are many complete fighters throughout the history of the sport.

He has a case because of the Greats he beat while they were Prime or close to it and they all had completely different styles, Prime Hearns, Prime Benetiz , Prime Duran 1-1 (although Duran above his best weight ) , so Duran gets the best of those 2 exchanges, Ray also beat an ATG past it Hagler at MW ( Ray on a long layoff and up in weight ) , so that evens out there
Look thats 3 highly ranked p4p ATGs while they were in Prime or close to it. And all 4 with Benetiz had completely different styles. Duran a top 10 ATG. Hagler and Hearns . Both top 30 p4p all time ATGs

Lets put it into perspective. How many ATGs did Floyd beat while they were Prime .. A big fat ZERO.

See what I mean ? Thats how great Ray Leonard was

He’s about as good as it gets, I don’t think he was as gifted as Robi (which is points here) but he was as good a boxer.
