Robinson is universally considered the P4P greatest of all time because no other fighter since his time has his combination of speed, power and overall boxing skill.

Henry Armstrong, Willie Pep, Benny Leonard and quite possibly Jimmy Wilde could be mentioned as the top P4P fighters of all time.

    What about Sandy Saddler?

Robinson has a claim for number 1, but like other rankings, in theory some guys can be rank over him. Guys I can SEE get rank over Robinson.

Now I dont rank them over Robinson, but a case can be made for them.

Barney Ross, holder of 3 weight divsion titles in 1933, 4 years before Armstrong. Best of his era, and beat about evey one there is in his lightweight to welterweight rein. The 3 titles? Lightweight, Jr Welterweight and Weltertitles. Armstrong got the rec for it because of no jr titles.

Tony Canzi, Did something not seen since the days of Fitz, winning 3 weight titles, and fought EVEYONE, it would be very rare to find a fighter of the 1930's during Tony's weight classes with out Toney being there. He has the edge of weight jumping, were Robinson failed to catch the light heavyweight title, heat or not.

Micky Walker was like Robinson in a way, Welter weight and middleweight champ, but the dude was beating heavyweights. I would like to see Robinson get ranked in the top 3 heavyweights of all time like Walker did. Micky was marching his way to a title shot until Schemling put a end to that. The draw with Sharkey, was perhaps Walker's greatness feat, people did felt Walker edge Sharkey though.

Sam Langford, other one of thsos middleweights blasting out the heavyweight contenders of the day. Color bar keep him from any titles from middleweight to heavyweight.

Joe Walcott, the first, Beat the color bar and got a title, also fought middlweights. Film of him talking lol.

Harry Greb, yeah no film, but what more can Greb do?? He fought evey one, destory the middleweights- to heavyweights. Outside of Wills, Dempsey should have giving Greb a shot, weights be dam.

Joe Gans the old Master, lightweight champ and perhaps the best of his era, Had wars with Nelson, and fought on with TB. The first black America champ.

George Dixion, perhaps?? Dont know much of him, but a great fighter.

Bob Fitz, first 3 weight champ, Lightheavyweight, middleweight and heavyweight titles. Common Myth says Robinson pound for pound was the phrase conn for him, but they were calling Fitz pound for pound 50 years before Robinson. I think the term was more con for Fitz for his weight jumping feats.

How can you possibly consider guys like George Dixon and Joe Gans as potential number 1's when there is zero footage of them? It's all well working off the guys records but if you can't see the skills for yourself then how can you truly know they were better than guys like SRL, Whitaker etc?

    Zero footage?????

There is footage of both fighters, a past prime Dixon in a sparining match and Gans has a hour and 14 mins vs Nelson, Herman highlights, and the McGoven fights.

Its not relly how they look any way. But what they did pound for pound and these 2 cant be left off. And we dont know if there better than SRL or vice vesa unless they fought in the ring. All these matchs are what ifs and should never imo be used for historic rankings imo.

I have seen both fighters in action, more impress with Gans than Dixion, but I let it slide since George was past his best days and near retirement about when that sparing match took place.

Gans was impressive, he can move, He box Herman silly, and he out brawl Nelson at his own game. I think there is footage to tell how he do in these so called vs matchs.

But we cant relly get todays fights right half the time. What relly makes us think we can tell who would win from fighters 100 years apart?? Impossible.
