with the recent controversies surrounding germany this isnt the most ideal thread but was the man underrated indeed he was involved in bad decisions but did such bad decisions shaddow his overall performance could he have been competitive with a prime joe calzaghe,RJJ,Toney or Benn at SMW

    No.

Calzaghe would have beaten the high holy **** out of Ottke and you can take that to the bank.

His overall competition level was just good, he never fought an elite fighter like you mentioned and the best guys he faced were robbed, several after that were involved in 'controversial decisions'. The guy could have anywhere up to 7 losses had the fights been scored genuinely and let's not even get started on the corruption inside of the ring to assist him.

A fraud, wracked up 21 title defences in complete fraudulent form, his reign should be considered null and void, as he won the title off of a blatant gift against Brewer to begin with.

These days I do think he is a little underrated. But he couldn't live with the most of the best SMW's in that were around in the 90s/early 00s.

BUT......he gives Toney hell to pay, despite being a far inferior fighter. The two world-class qualities that Ottke had were footwork and stamina, and I have very, very serious doubts over whether Toney could cope with Ottke's footwork and style.

Oh please, there were only 2 clear losses on his record, the rest can be considered fair.

In a way he is, because the controversy precedes any opinion on him as a fighter, it just overshadows everything else

Everything else aside, he was infact a world class boxer, a crafty boxer with good defence that competed well considering what a featherfist he is.

never saw him fight but he won a lot of SD's and such in a career full of 12 rounders in germany which does imply that unless you were gonna knock him out then you wouldnt win. how was his chin?? i mean he never got knocked out by these guys that some posters are saying were robbed.

from looking at his record it is clear by the quality of opposition he was a protected fighter, fighting in germany against good, mediocre and bad opponents all by decisions. No benn, no eubank, no rjj, no toney, no collins, no calzaghe, no mads larsen even!! lol

at least calzaghe decided once he'd racked up a number of defences he would try and cement his legacy with big fights. a lot of similarities can b found in joe and sven tho: over 20 title defences, mainly fought in native country, fought good/mediocre oponents for most of their career, unified 2 titles, tookon some of the same fighters, and both undefeated! ODD

He gets TKO'd by Calzaghe & Toney and knocked the **** out by Benn and Jones Jr. He's not under-rated in the slightest. Too many decisions went his way he lost many fights.
