Is Taylor the best British fighter since Calzaghe?

He's achieved so much in such a short period of time / 18 fights so it is still early days however by the time he finishes his career I'd put a strong bet on that being the case

Wouldn't take him too seriously, he thinks the Prograis that fought Taylor would lose to Hooker & fat Mikey 'A level' Garcia who's legacy at 140 consists of a green Lipinets (a competitive fight btw) would 'beat the ****' out of now undisputed champion Taylor .. he only seems to like juiced up Mexican melon heads.

Fury is possibly already greater than Calzaghe.
And that's remarkable because Fury's resume is criticized for being weak and thin, and with good reason.

 

Taylor's done very well indeed but I'm not sure any of his opponents will ever be remembered as great fighters. We shall see.

 

Taylor's a very good fighter and did very well to claim all the belts, but I'd want to see a little more at world level and another real world class win or two.
Calzaghe went undefeated and his work from 2006-08 would put him ahead, Froch was good and Fury and Joshua today are still ahead of him imo.

Nice none answer. So basically your whole post was meaningless because you can't define what A Level means nor can you justify Taylor or Prograis not being in it.

 

Taylor looks to be a complete fighter. He has decent power, decent speed, an excellent chin and a good ring IQ. He can stick and move or fight inside.

He has no glaring weakness. He may not be the best in any one of those categories but he's good in all of them.

If he manages his career carefully, he's got a shot at being listed among the best British boxers.

 

There's a difference between getting Loma v Lopez wrong & continually making **** claims like you do sally .. most ppl thought Lopez would lose. Fair play to the lad. New hero? I've been on the Taylor train for years & predicted everything he was going to do. I was right about him. If Garcia had of done what Taylor just did, you'd have been sucking his nuts right now calling him the best thing since sliced bread.. And a pretty far cry from some of what I've seen folks say - "basic as f*ck" on another thread I was like, ok if Taylor is basic that 's really tough on all the journeymen out there!

What I will say, is I can kinda see how some folks might not see Taylor as 'special' exactly because he is kind of "Jack Of All Trades, Master of None", but there ain't many fighters out there that are so solid in all the fundamentals and very high in "intangibles" as well. I'd say that's pretty special, even if he isn't exceptional in any specific area (e.g. like how Khan was obviously exceptionally fast). Although his short left-counter hook is getting better & better every fight.

 

That well rounded-ness makes him a tough fight.

I don't think he should go after the biggest and best Welterweights yet. There are good fights to be made at 140.

He should not put himself at a disadvantage by fighting bigger opponents, at least not yet.

If you look at the careers of Mayweather and now Canelo, they managed their careers in such a way as to minimize risk and maximize reward.

Taylor is just getting started. It would be wise for him to do the same as he is still building experience and improving his skills.

 

Funny how fighters are sometimes only defined by who they beat (the best metric obviously) and never by what they do. Maybe Ramirez isn't the fighter people thought he was - we really can't say until we witness his return, same for Prograis when he steps back up in class - but anyone who knows boxing can tell the technical skill of both KDs was top draw; slipping a shot and timing a short fast counter for the first, moving Ramirez into position for the uppercut for the second.

Anyway, Crawford is highly rated - and rightly so - yet he unified the same division as Taylor by taking the belts off John Molina, Felix Diaz and Julius Indongo, a distinctly underwhelming list of fighters. One of his best wins is Postol. Ditto Taylor.

But here's the thing, I don't rate Taylor as highly as Crawford. And rating Bud has little to do with who he's fought - it's how he's fought them. Afford Taylor the same respect and people have to rate him too. Can't have it both ways...
