I think Teddy is vey knowledgeable , when he was in the corner with Moorer against Foreman he told Michael "he's trying to set you up for the right hand!" 2 rounds later he was ko'ed by a right hand. Everyone judges the intelligence of another to the degree in which they are in agreement with your own opinions . So half will love him and half will call him crazy. Objectivity can be so elusive.

He's full of himself and a terrible announcer, but he does understand the business of boxing better than the average fellow.

Eh, not any. The ones that have never stepped foot in a gym maybe. Plenty of fans, however, live in cities steeped in boxing tradition (NYC, Philly etc) and may have rubbed shoulders with old-school coaches that know just as much as Teddy if not way more. I spent time under the learning tree & sparred with people from Hagler's camp, scions of the Petronellis, and when it comes down to stuff they said versus Atlas' diatribes, if they conflict, I know which I'm trusting in. :nusenuse:

Plenty of people that have trained at places like Kronk or Gleason's or Wild Card or Big Bear (at whatever level) have probably also been forum posters, too, and would have been exposed to knowledge straight from the source that rivals or surpasses his.

Nah. The guys on Showtime and HBO would say they disagreed with the judges all the time.

It's clear he doesn't follow boxing very closely anymore

He talks about fighters and it's clear he has no idea about them, or he just hams up the thing he is talking about for effect & drama.

Wasn't impressed with any of his Fury Wilder punditry.

Didn’t Teddy also get booted off ESPN for openly pointing out how corrupt the judges are and have been for the history of this sport?

My point is others might disagree too but Teddy would let it RIP and not let it go to the point you just knew his aze was going to get in trouble

He’s very knowledgeable unless he’s got an emotional stake in the subject he’s weighing in on. He’s a pretty animated emotional guy at baseline and his views are often predicated on that emotion rather than his knowledge.

As such, he can be quite annoying, which causes a lot of hypocritical judgment that he lacks knowledge, myself included at times.

No. Absolutely not. So not credible that anyone who thinks he's credible is not credible.

Teddy's extensive knowledge of pugilism is often lost in a sea of pseudointellectual nonsense courtesy of Alzheimer's, but it's still in there somewhere. I think he was of the mind that the fighters already knew what to do, it just needed to be dragged of them, so his role as a coach was more of a motivational speaker or hypeman. The lengths that he would go to were borderline exploitative, but very funny nonetheless.

[Teddy Atlas, as he pulls out a comically large cellphone out of nowhere]: "MICHAEL, I'M ON THE PHONE WITH YA SON; HE SAYS YA GAY IF YA LOSE THIS FIGHT."

There was a time I'd say yes, but his ongoing sour grapes against Tyson got old a loooong time ago. I don't pay too much attention to him.
