some idiot on this site told me that if trainers wouldn't teach you a certain technique in a gym then it isn't textbook, like manny's footwork. here's the flaw in that statement: in most modern day gyms, trainers don't teach fighters how to cut off the ring which is one of the most effective aspects of boxing. i can literally count on one hand how many modern fighters i see cutting the ring off. floyd can cut the ring off(in sparring ) in actual fights he's back pedaling and holding the whole time and smiles when he gets hit :D but gonzales and gigi are obvious ones, maidana is another one but it's subtle. why aren't they seen as textbook fighters? they would steamroll everyone in the ring. shawn porter is another one, his style is messy but he can beat almost everyone. i think it's all subjective and opinion based because pacquiao isn't a text book fighter but he can beat the sh*t out of everyone :hi:

Because Mayweather choose to fight of the back-foot does not mean he can't cut off the ring.

If you're easily out-boxing your opponent, why do you need to cut of the ring?

You seem to miss understand why a boxer need to cut of the ring in the first place.

    Being "entertaining" is subject.

Fighting they way you want Floyd to fight will undermine his physically advantage while enabling that of his opponents.

Floyd is a defensive counter puncher. His offense nowadays is based on making guys miss while countering them with his own punches. Asking him at this stage of his career to sit down on his puncher and trade with inferior boxers/athletes will be foolish on his part. Yes it may be entertaining to you, but it's not rational on Floyd's part.

Remember, the main objective for a boxer is "winning", everything else is secondary.

Quite a silly opinion to base 'textbook fighter' term on a single ability to cut off the ring.
