Is that part of the problem with the WBSS? That they select divisions that tend to be weak overall

I've always known Smith is not very good, he is a weight bully and beat a broken shell of George Groves and got his ass whooped by Ryder and Canelo.

However, how can you look at Briedis and Gassiev and say they're not elite?? Especially Briedis, he is in my p4p top10, he has some very unique skills and might be one of the craftiests boxers out there, he has no weakness and his only loss (very very close one) was to Usyk who is the greatest CW ever. If Briedis was as well known and marketable as Canelo he would have got the nod over Usyk and now you'd be saying how amazing Briedis is. I had Usyk just edging it though

I think cruiserweight has always been considered a weak division because it has always been a weak division. (LOL)

Cruiserweight has been a division for 40 years. there have been four heavyweight belts for the last 30 years.

How many cruiserweight titlelists have moved up and won a heavyweight title? Two? Three if you count Toney before his **** test came back?

I mean just as many middleweight champs in the same time frame have won heavyweight titles. (One of the middleweight champs was also one of the cruiserweight champs - Toney. LOL)

And the whole point of this thread, particularly after last Saturday, is winning the WBSS for many on this board (and apparently a lot of butt hurt guys in this thread) is viewed as a HUGE deal.

In fact, winning it put Usyk in the minds of many in the #1 Pound for Pound spot and got him a #1 heavyweight mandatory rating on top of it.

But anyone can look at his work at heavyweight and see he doesn't look like anything special. I know he did at cruiserweight BECAUSE it's historically been a weak division.

The WBSS seems to focus on tournaments in weak divisions where they can sign multiple champs who really don't have anything else going on.

My only point is should we (or the guys who think it's a big deal) reconsider what winning the WBSS means? Because the finalists (with Inoue being the exception) don't look like they can beat actual ELITE fighters in the divisions around them.

Who thinks Josh Taylor beats Teofimo Lopez or Loma if they moved up? Who thinks Taylor beats Errol Spence or Crawford or Pacquaio if Taylor moved up?

It's a nice tournament. But should winners be lauded as elite if the division they win in is "not great" (to put it politely)?

Which elite champs does Josh Taylor or Regis Prograis beat? Teofimo Lopez? Spence? Crawford? Pac?

Who does Gassiev beat - Fury, Joshua or both?

Who does Briedis beat - Fury, Joshua or both?

Who does Usyk beat - Fury, Joshua or both?

Who does Dorticos beat - Fury, Joshua or both?

Who does Callum Smith beat? Golovkin? Canelo (oops)? Beterbiev?

    I'll wait for your response.

    In your mind.
Only place you deserved to be is ppl's ignore lists.
Division where the best in prime fought the best in their primes.
Weak division because you think that CW boxers like Tabiti are not capable to beat YOU up.
Not enough weight of fat like you do have?
With FAT you are heavier boxer than Tabiti of course.

I don't think folks view Usyk as elite simply because of the fact he won WBSS

He is viewed as elite because of who he beat, where he beat them and the manner in which he beat them.

Has he lost a step moving up to heavyweight - possibly, he had a bicep injury and had a fair bit of inactivity.

IMO Joshua will vacate WBO rather than fight Usyk, as I don't think he will be confident of winning that by any stretch, because he knows that Usyk is a nightmare match up for him - fast, hard to tag CLEAN, with a fantastic engine that simply gets better as the fight goes on. All of that spells a really tough night for Joshua, and I fully expect you will see Usyk move up a few gears through that fight if it happens.

The Ryder comment annoyed me to

Guys very skilled and tough as nails but has not been on the right end of the decisions and we pretty much all know why

He literally beat up a hooker in Las Vegas. I always say that she was probably his fourth or so best opponent.
