Is the 1984 U.S Olympic team the greatest of all time?

It's close. You can't go wrong really with Leonard and Michael Spinks. Call me crazy but I also think Howard Davis Jr is one of the most talented fighters never to win a world title, maybe that's a stretch but he was certainly capable of doing so.

I'd have 84 just ahead of 76, it's down to depth IMO. Sugar Ray is the best fighter out of both teams, but the quality overall of 84 just pips 76 to the post I reckon.

No, you're wrong. At that point the Soviets had a bigger dominance...

OK, I just missed the flag.

You shoulda highlighted Randolph, that poor ****er never gets any love when the 1976 team gets mentioned. He did win a world title so he has one over on Davis!;)

I'd call Whitaker the best out of both teams myself.

A few places below Leonard for me.

As great as Pea is, definitely a few places below Leonard.

    Better, not greater.

In terms of application of skillset/overall ability I don't think you could make any claim other than 'they're different'.

Oh ok, I'm not sure, Leonard had everything, probably more powerful p4p and a slightly better combination puncher. Not as good defensively but great chin and tough.

Also, judges liked Leonard more which is a skill in itself.

I'm biased, and I have no shame in being it.

Hey Loco, isn't ironic that the last ever scheduled 15 round fight in America ended in the very first round?

Got nothing to do with the thread like, I just needed to get it off my chest.
