Have you looked into whether or not the promotor started taking a bigger cut after?

I'm basing my statement on the various books I have read by and about Joe Louis, also "Jacobs Beach".Also
Truman Gibson's memoirs, and other related books. if anyone has anything further to add I am all ears. Old dogs CAN learn new tricks!

Braddock sure was lucky that Louis overhand right was so inexplicably short. He was looking hapless and helpless as the punch came in. Kudos to him for taking advantage of Louis having punched himself out of position though, and countering without missing a beat.

It always looked to me like Louis did a slight chicken dance when he got up :dancer2:

"Coming out of a clinch near the end of the round,I had him in the corner beating on him, when he swung a short right uppercut to my chin.Down I went.I said to myself, what the hell am I doing here?
I was hurt, but bounced right up,to take advantage of the count. But I guess I was in a hurry I just got up and went right at it.My head was clear, not like when Schmeling hit me."Joe Louis.

Does that mean you're changing your vote to "The head?"

He knew what was happening as soon as Louis' fist left his guard.

Watching Braddock sparring and his later fights, he seemed to have an uncanny ability to measure distance of opponents punches, and be in position to counter.

Based on Louis's quote I believe it was a head shot.Ive already said this in a post a few months ago. Unlike some here, I never have a problem admitting when I'm wrong.
Based on the footage I can say hand on heart I can't tell where it landed and I don't honestly believe anyone who is without an agenda here can either!

I don't know if anyone's expressed this comparison, but it looks a lot like RJJ's knockdown of Calzaghe in the first round, only that it was prodominantly the glove that landed and not RJJ's mix of glove and forearm. He clips Louis in the chin/head for sure, but I don't think that's where the contact finishes. I'm assuming Louis had little to no time to prepare himself for the punch as he didn't see it coming, so if the contact was on the button, he may have been struggling to make the count.

Clearly on the chin, the way he falls gives it away. Yes louis feet were squared up similar to tysons when he was KD by holyfield with a punch to the chest. But when you get knocked back from a shot that lands while your feet are squared....you get knocked way back and the impact looks exagerated because you dont have a foot back there to catch your balance and stop you from falling back. Louis didnt fall back he fell STRAIGHT DOWN. He got hit on the chin and his legs gave away. If the shot had landed on his chest with enough force to knock him down he would have been knocked backwards.

It is because I have a full-time job that clerical errors are made. You thought it was a punch to the chest. HAHA. As I have said numerous times before, you do not know what you are watching!

Sure when there is video, and you become embarrassed, you'll admit a mistake.
