Is the current heavyweight division only regarded as bad....

... because there are no top level Americans in it? Let's face it, Americans can't stand a boxing division where the top guys aren't American. It's a good division.

Both Klitschkos, Haye, Pulev and Povetkin could box in any era in boxing history and still be regarded as top guys. Yet for some reason dumbass yanks say it is a weak division? I guarantee if those guys were American, the yanks would be all over them.

So tell me, why do Americans allow their xenophobia to get in the way of their enjoyment of boxing?

Actually - it makes it open for a US HW to come in and rekindle interest from the US. Ironically, a period of weak US HWs will make the quality US heavyweight that does emerge all the more interesting to the public.

BTW - how far do people think Michael Hunter will go?

    You would say that.

Anytime a guy like Juan Carlos Gomez gets a shot at a title let's you know this era is WORST of all.

the HW division has some potential now, we are seeing talent grow, lets hope to see some good fights in the future, it has the potential of being a decent division.

Nobody today would top of the 15 round competitive eras.

It's not xenophobia it's the truth..

Find self-esteem somewhere else besides boxing.

There probably some truth to what you are saying. But past champions like Ali and Tyson created excitement world wide. In places like Asia, Africa, South America and Australia while the current crop just seem to create excitement in their home countries or countries close by. The heavyweight champ used to be the most famous guy in sport or one of the top 3.

Now there are many sports people far more famous than Wlad or Vitali. David Beckham who is like the at the moment the 250th best Football player in the world is far more famous. Team sports have a lot more money now than they did 25 years ago. Wlad and Vitali may be good guys and good fighters but outside of Germany, Russia and Ukraine they don't really capture the public imagination. More people across the globe know who Apollo Creed, Clubber Lang and Ivan Drago are than the two current HW champs!

All the different belts and organisations dosen't help either.

    we got

    PULEV V THOMPSON next week

    Haye v Fury

    Wlad v povetkin

    Areola v Mitchell

    got some talent aswell

    ruisz jr
    wilder
    jennings etc

weve already had some fights where top contenders are facing each other, i say it has potential of being a good division if top contenders keep facing each other.

This HW era is very poor. Everyone knows it. No need to make excuses.

Not having a pop at yanks but they dismiss any sport they aren't number 1 at. They don't like cricket, rugby, football etc all massive sports worldwide that Americans generally hate. So now they have no good heavyweights thy automatically dismiss the division.

That's a good point but... is that more down to the fact the current heavyweights have a perceived lack of charisma compared to the likes of Ali, Frazier, Tyson etc rather than poor boxing skill?

Because the Klitschkos are excellent boxers but I do admit, they don't have the charisma of Ali. Ali created excitement because not only was he an excellent boxer but he was also very charismatic and exciting when he spoke. If he had the same boxing skills but no charisma, would he have created as much global excitement? I don't think so.

America gave huge backing to the Klitschkos. When Vitali lived in L.A he was treated like a home town fighter....Wlad had HBO covering all his fights even when he fought in Germany......Wlad blew it when he changed his style to hug first , box second...He began to bore people to death and fought nothing but stool pigeons like Mormek....K2 have only themselves to blame fror being ousted from the world stage..

it's considered weak because the Champion is out of reach of all the top guys (similar to the Larry Holmes era) and, because until recently, the #3 and lower guys refused to fight each other, though that has recently started to change

It's not currently at its worst point, it is building up. However Only Wlad
and Vitali would be top 10 in most other eras. They're heads and tails above
everyone else. Its not even close.
