Is the dumbest thing a fighter can do after a loss to...

    ...get in the ring for an immediate rematch?

    Other than Antonio Tarver & IzVaz, how many fighters have come back from a loss w/ NO tune up fights in between to beat the guy who beat them?

    It makes no sense unless you felt you dominated and were robbed or the fight was so close that just a touch of fate could change the outcome next time.

    I would have never let JT rematch Pavlik immediately. I would have given him at least 1 tune up so that he could practice a new style or strategy on a live opponent, not someone I'm paying to not hurt my guy in sparring. Give him time to get adjusted to a new way of fighting instead of implenting a trial by fire test.

    What do the boxing gurus of ESB think of immediate rematches following a loss?

    Well, sometimes ego overrides common sense. Although Taylor certainly did better than I thought he would tonight. There's no doubt he lost, but I expected a Pavlik KO.

    I'm usually against it, however, there is no denying that Taylor did preform better the second time out against Pavlik.

    Dude, you need to do some research....there are literally hundreds of fighters who came back after a loss to beat that fighter in the rematch. Too many to name...

    Wins in immediate revenge matches off of a KO loss? Hundreds? I can't think of ten.

    Name some who had no fights in between the 1st fight & the rematch. Other than the two I named, I can only add Corrales vs. Casamayor & MAB vs. Morales 2 & 3, but MABvEM was that example of it being so close that a touch of fate could change the outcome, so an immediate rematch was acceptable.

    Well if we classify it as after KO losses, then no...there are a few, but not many. But that goes into the fact that after a KO loss there normally isnt any reason for a rematch ever, let alone an immediate one. But after a loss...that has happened many, many, many times.

    But after a KO loss wasnt what the original post was talking about (he mentions Tarver...)...so my point still stands.

    Even though I gave it to you, Castillo purposely didn't make and that ruined the fight .
    Holyfield had a tune-up between 1 & 2
    Ruiz-Holyfield was so close that it deserved the rematch.
