The fall of the Soviet Union and the communist countries in Eastern Europe influenced the appearance of this russian/eastern euro heavyweights? How?
Well...before the fall of the iron curtain, very few, if any good amateurs were ever allowed to turn pro.
Exactly. When the iron curtain was still up the SOviet boxers wern't allowed to compete with the professionals. So when the wall came down there was an influx of them and most just happen to be big.
The food rations stopped so the people grew bigger and stronger but their only reference for how to box was Ivan Drago vs Rocky Balboa. But due to communism, the end of the tape was adapted so that Drago won. This is where the Eastern European HWs learnt to box which accounts for the crude techniques.
Of course!! Since the time of Joe Louis until Riddick Bowe, Eastern European/ Slavic fighters never had a chance to turn pro. I will say Golota was the first one to have an impact, against Bowe, who was considered the best HW in the World at the time. Bowe just knocked out Holyfield, but gave up the belt. Golota had a lot of talent but was a total nut case.
Yes it did. The reason is the fact that Eastern European fighters were allowed to fight pro, as they were not allowed to do such before.
