Is the Froch-Bute fight the biggest blunder by HBO and Showtime execs this decade?

What a blunder. The responsible should be fired on the spot.

    No.

Regardless of how good the win was, Froch and Bute are still nobodies in America. Only the hardcore fans are aware of who they are. Their spots are saved for more financially rewarding fights that draw in higher viewing figures.

Not that big of a blunder.

I wonder who Showtime finds for Bute next. They have one more fight under the contract.
Bute can't retire now even if he wants to. But SHO would have paid a huge amount to see him in a comebackfight or a bye-bye fight.
    Bute vs. Green = 2 mil $.

Yes he can retire if he wants to. No fighter can legally be forced to box n why not a Froch rematch. It's in his contract and he'll make money.

Then it is an EVEN WORSE blunder because then it is not just a big big one-off blunder but a series of mis-calculations.

If they are not big then the responsible execs should already have been fired.

Showtime's big big boxing bet was the Super Six and Carl had many fight there and went all the way to the final. If Showtime did not manage anything with that... then they must be completely incompetent. And HBO had Bute, so same story basically.

If two fighters like this are not known in the US - the same networks are to blame and every day (e.g with a fight like this) their blunders now and in the past become more and more obvious.

  8. boxing's not that big though.. not anymore.

    In the USA

Let's compare two fights as an example

not in terms of PPV PPV is obviously higher now cuz of easier marketing via internet and 24/7

    But LEWIS TYSON

Got massive coverage on ESPN even NBC ABC

for weeks prior to the fight

    weeks... not days.. weeks

They even didn't talk about the NBA Finals that year and was interviewing Mike's camp instead..

Floyd Mayweather Cotto never even got more then a day's coverage.

And Lewis Tyson was only 9-10 years ago... the massive drop in boxing in a short decade in America is absurd

 It’s not entirely the fault of the network’s that the fighters popularities didn’t pick up during their time with them. That comes more down to the promoters of the fighters. And even down to the fighters themselves – who probably just don’t have that wow factor to attract American viewers. Showtime and HBO probably analyzed their viewing figures for these two and came to the conclusion they wouldn’t be worthwhile.

I guess somebody just got owned:roll:... And yes, definitely it was a blunder. We have all seen much less important fight cards in both HBO & SHOWTIME, why not this fight, specially after the Super 6??

    Miranda-Bute was on HBO

Allan Green- Johnson was on showtime.

    ...

    Froch vs Bute not?

No matter the excuses... it reaks of incompetence.

It wasn't a good fight so no it wasn't a blunder. It was a onesided beatdown. Showtime will likey opt out of bute last fight unless he rematches froch.

Don't think that's possible at all.
Of course they could do that, it's not written in blood, but we don't know what fees and penalties are involved there. It could cost them dearly. The reverse is most likely true also.
