the ibo belt definetly gives u huge exposure...its either a stepping stone or for a chance to make some money and entertainment...the thread is actaully a good one...i would love to know why the mexicans have never cottoned on to the ibo...
No but in some cases with Title fights like Darchinyan vs Donaire or Tarver vs Jones Jr or Hopkins vs Pascal You think they are a joke. **** Off some of those fights were fights people really wanted to see and in some cases were far better than some of the Bull**** ones the other ABC Organizations had going at the time. An example Francis is this. in 2009 IBO had Pacquiao vs Hatton at 140 at around the same time these were the other Title Fights. IBF Juan Urango vs Randell Bailey at 140 WBC was Tim Bradley vs Kendall Holt at 140 WBA was Amir Khan vs Andriy Kotelnyk at 140 WBO was Tim Bradley vs Kendall Holt at 140 Now as i was trying to say some can say want they ****ing want about the IBO but in some cases they have the best two of the division fighting. Thats a Fact I could say the same about the other belts at different times. But slowly the IBO is becoming WBO. In my honest Opinion give it 5 years and they will be just another ABC Belt.
I agree with this post. Pacquiao counts the IBO title at 140 as one of his 8 divisions he's won a world title in, so if it's considered by him as a legit title, then it certainly adds credibility to the sanctioning body. I believe he won the Ring title aswell on that night, though that is more a lineal title than an actual title if that makes sense. I believe a world title has more credibility based on who you defeated for the title than the actual sanctioning body it is under.
Because Mexicans are more interested in legit titles? Mexicans have held the IBO at one point or another anyway. Huge exposure in Australia yeah, but over here in the UK it'd be lucky to get televised nowadays, and in the US I very much doubt they'd even mention the title. I said that, its not as bad as other Mickey Mouse titles but I'd probably be more proud of a Euro title win over a decent contender, than picking up an IBO title thats been vacant for years, against an unknown South African.
Hatton kept his IBO belt but not the others because he wanted to make his own fights and not have to pay much sanctioning. IBO would have been tacked onto many high profile fights to give the org legitimacy, but also used by fighters who didnt feel the need to pay the other orgs sanctioning fees. I dont think so. When guys who arent even proven at domestic level can get IBO fights against unkown foreigners, I cant see it ever being legit as the WBO. Would you consider Peter Manfredo a former world champ? Sakio Bika? And with WBA, WBC diluting there titles even further, I hope it DOESNT establish itself.
I agree with your last sentence. Thats the main problem with the IBO, You can most of the time win that belt by beating chumps. e.g Danny Green and Will Tomlinson. If that sort of **** continues then the IBO will always be a joke belt.
a USA commentator doing a fight night for shobox didnt even know WTF the IBO was or stood for when one of the fights on the card was for the vacant IBO title. Wouldnt **** on that belt if it was on fire. Hatton vs pacman so fckn what? Hatton held the title at the time, it wasnt as if they fought for a vacant IBO title. HE lost to floyd and needed a trinket title so he got the IBO one its the most easy title to obtain, fight anyone whos rated in their top 50 etc hahaha
mate when Hopkins beat Pascal he didn't want the IBO belt. He binned it rather than pay the fee. Your other points are good. In time it may gain credibility.
That's where Choc's IBO title win was different and rates so highly. He outclassed a great fighter and reigning champion in Danny Geale :good
he actually beat Paulie who has just vacated he IBF, he didnt need a belt, everyone knew he was #1 in the division.
anyone else here believe tc would jism all over the 'ring' if he were to be offered a IBO title belt?
He might have to, to recover coin he done in last 2 fights. Rumour has it he done something like 750k on Tarver & last Wednesday wasn't much different.
