Is the Muhammad Ali trophy the new gold standard in modern boxing?

They should make it mandatory that each wbss tournament only goes ahead if all 4 major world title belts are in the tournament. Then it would become the most prestige trophy ever.

 

Not yet, but it should be. Hopefully it will end up being a case that not going into the super series is unthinkable. The knockout tournament format is the best in the world.

For what it represents yeah that is a prestigious award. Looks dumb though and this is boxing so really it shoudl be a belt.

Why did Ali fight and go to court to get his conviction overturned for avoiding the draft if he was willing to face whatever punishment was in store for him?

I'm not going to defend Clinton, he's reputation is already in the gutter. And they are not trying to shove Cliton trophies down the throats of decent men.

 

Of course in hindsight the war was inexcusable.

However in that time period, the belief was that America was at a real risk of being attacked if it didn't defend itself. Which is why every men was called to bear arms to protect the country that they loved.

Ali wanted nothing to do with it, even whilst under the impression the country was going to be attacked and bombed if he didn't help to make up the numbers in the army.

 

It’s a trophy. You win those for spelling bees and bowling leagues too.

You can’t wear a trophy into the ring. You can’t sling it over your shoulder while you’re talking to the weigh-in or a TV talk show. What are you going to do, put it on wheels and have someone push it around? No, you’re going to put it in his living room for a while and then come the holidays you have to make a place for a Christmas tree or some such and it ends up in a basement collecting dust.

Even Olympians get medals of gold, silver or bronze that they can wear around their necks.

Two things matter in professional boxing: Money and championship belts, in that order.

 

So you despise a man on some he said she said stuff? So quick to destroy someone over the flimiest of evidence.

 

We have enough sanctioning bodies ****ing up the sport as it is. Don't need another.
