If anyone saw the Rousey fight this past weekend or any videos of her training, it's obvious she's a low level boxer with horrible technique. Yet The Ring put her on the front cover. This is the same mag which supposedly has the most respected P4P list.
It's rankings have always been deeply flawed, but it's usually better than the organization ratings. Boxrec is slightly better I'd say.
Boxrec has some sort of beef with the Heavyweight division though. They have zero HW in their P4P ranking.
One reason for that is because champions from other orgainsiations can't be ranked with other sanctioning bodies. Another reason is guys who pick up regional belts with ranking bodies getting an automatic top 15 even if they are pretty poor and say from Africa,Asia or Oceania or a comparatively weak part of the world in a certain division I can't complain about these these titles are there to allow boxers based in any part of the world to have a fair crack at becoming world champion and getting a decent ranking. But in saying that some sanctuo ing bodies especially the wbc have god awful rankings
Ring magazine isn't Ring magazine anymore. It seized to exist when GBP bought it and only the name and format remained. That aRousy was on the cover isn't that big of a deal imo. It was to be expected to happen sooner or later with the popularity of MMA and some of its fighters. It just shows that boxing has a problem and is losing popularity because of the way it's managed (or lack thereof). Their rankings are flawed, and became even more flawed with promotional interests of GBP. One of our guys is going to fight that guy... quick, put him in our divisional top. When they published their rankings with Broner in their top5 a couple of years back, they basically hinted their readers to stop taking them seriously. Ring magazine has had its time. Their belt has become somewhat worthless as well, when it became a toy for guys that have big names but can't beat the best in the division, have no intention to fight the better names or even opponents from that division, but want to act as the champion. Never before have Ring championships been further removed from the division's best fighters.
Lost all validity when GBP bought it imo, isn't Canelo still The Rings middleweight champion for example?
Yup cucknelo the pride of mexico is holding that belt lol He will probably duck the pride of heartfordshire
The Ring hasn't had as much credibility since Oscar took over but it's still better than ESPN, and frequently better than boxrec. In terms of objective ranking they've always been better than the alphabet organizations.
Not for along time but I will sassasy it lost anything it had left when they put rousey on therther front of it lol Do it again oscher do it I need a laugh
