Did it have any to begin with?

With the latest news about Steve Collins getting a license, after 16 years away, I feel this is bringing the sport into disrepute and turning the sport into a bit of a laughing stock.

We won't even go into Flintoff-gate.

But these past few years it seems to me this sport has gone to pot, its got no common sense what so ever. Not just because of stuff like this, but fights aint being made that SHOULD be made, and there is so much **** going on outside of the ring, its turning this sport into one big episode of Eastenders.

All the crap going on between rival promoters in this country, fighters jumping ship, all the dirty laundry being done out in the public. BS all over social media. Fighters pulling out, delays, shows being cancelled, fighters claiming everyone they fought are on steroids, busted fighters claiming everyone else is doing it, so why cant I?

    What is going on?

The one fight that should of been made in Chisora vs. Haye, did eventually get made, but look at all the BS controversy surrounding it, "This fight shouldn't go ahead" "I won't be watching" (and they did)....at the end of the day, it was two young active fighters wanting to settle the score and settle it in the ring, not at a press conference, its only natural for a promoter to try and make that fight, but just look at the furore surrounding it?

Yet where is it now that a

    Agreed.

I've always said that Boxing is the best sport in the world but also the worst run one there is too.

There are plenty of worse things in boxing than an ex-pro being given his licence. If he wants to fight and he's fit, let him do it. The only reason any fan should be annoyed is if the BBBoC are ignoring medical reports which says he's unfit to box and, as far as I'm aware, that isn't the case. I have no issue with Collins fighting again.

I have more of an issue with the BBBoC not looking out for the fans who are constantly treated like ****. It's also wrong that they don't defend the fighters more, financially and physically.

It does seem more susceptible to 'freakshows' than other sports

It's nothing to do with them.

This fight is looking likely to be in the old Soviet block or the middle east.

I mean look at the situation with the belts. Alphabet spaghetti belts. Klitschko's ruling the Heavyweight division and have been for years, controlling the division, cherry picking fights. Not fighting the best or the most worthy on a consistent basis. Though they have been doing it for years, they aint the only ones in the sport at it.

I mean how many times do we see Number 1 vs. Number 2? It don't happen as much as it should do because there can only be one winner and one loser, and power hungry promoters dont want those type of risk fights. There is no genuineness to boxing anymore, 3 different world champs a division (unless one or two hold the lot) and all trying their hardest not to fight one another.

And it aint just at that level either, you got promoters and fighters trying to take specific routes to get a belt, "IBF route" and all that nonsense, the best chance of all 3 to become champion. These aint champions, they are belt holders, how can you call yourself champion when you didnt beat the very best around for the belt?

    Shits crazy.

They should just fight the best and be done with, why do so many think, if you lose to the best, it's all over? You might get another opportunity to rise and recreate yourself, it might be the lesson you need, the step you have to take to rise again, you might be the one on top, with the one you beat in the same situation you was in....it's a cycle man, nobody ever really wins.

You also got fighters talking about fighting the best, but never do.

Ultimately Craney, in any other sport a 48 year old who hasn't competed in 16 years coming back would be laughed off, but in boxing you have to remember the golden rule: 'if it makes money it makes sense'. That is the be all and end all of this corrupt business

I mean the best fought the best years ago, it wasn't as bad as it is now with this over protective bull****. For crying out loud, years ago fighters were coming out of semi-retirement to fight the best, to prove a point, it was all about pride, glory, legacy, respect.

The best fought the best, in this country and all over the world.

Look at it now, **** aint the same anymore. If you lost against the best, you got over it, you come back, you put it right. Now you got so many fighters obsessed with this undefeated record, afraid to ever taste defeat. Baby fed from the first fight, to the last.

The real champions all taste defeat, they taste defeat to come back stronger, and to never taste it again, they build a will to win even more so than it was before. You learn a vital lesson in life.

When you have two fighters up against like that, with that same will, you have great fights. The fights make and sell themselves.

Just look at Groves and De Gale, they didnt want them pair to fight because they were saying it would damage their careers as they have just started of!?!

The people outside of the ring are destroying this sport, not the fans, those are keeping this sport afloat, always have. Yet those are the ones being lied to, let down, those are the ones getting taken the **** out of, given the run around, the fans aren't the problem, but the people running it are. The promoters, the agents, the media moguls, The CEO's, the men behind closed doors, the suits.

Those have virtually always been around sniffing at this sport. But the sport is/has gotten worse in my opinion. It's turned into a farce.

Even more so when you see the likes of Flintoff "having a go".....its an insult to the sport.

People have died in that ring, people have beat the **** out of one another in that very ring and you got these outside pranksters "having a go"?

    Pssshhhh

    This is boxing.

If you pass your medical test, you are fit to fight.

Throughout history, nobody has been assed about how old a fighter is..? There is nothing new about this.

    Fighters fight.

    Quit moaning aswell.

"The best used to fight the best"........They still do, boxing has not really changed.

society's perception has..? because they have allot more things to be interested in. And society in general has been civilised, boxing is a working class sport and still a brutal one.

    Quit crying man.

What a load of crap PK.

This is a 48 year old man, out of the ring for 16 years, coming back to fight a still active fighter. Did you see what happened to Ricky Hatton? He hadn't even been away for that long, and most people thought he would do Senchenko.....and it fell to pieces.

Steve Collins could be in serious danger, and anybody that condones giving this man a license to compete should be ashamed of themselves.

Steve Collins has no place in a boxing ring anymore. Done.

Anyone in their right mind will agree with this.

    Sorry mate.
