Agree. It's always been this way.

Like the poster above says if it makes money it makes sense.

Paradoxically it's part of the allure but also a massive frustration ... It's not football or other sports where you have structure and a start / end point

    Agreed.

What some should remember is this:

This sport has a goal of punching someone in the head or body until the referee stops it, the bout reaches its time limit or the opponent falls to the floor for a ten count.

In the modern society the only justification for such a sport, is if the person is willing to do it, and can pass all the relevant medical tests to gain a licence; who are you to stop them?

You sound like the people who wanted to ban the sport, do you think 100 years ago! You would get boxing fans moaning and crying like you are now..?

What's change..? like i stated before society has been civilised. Boxing is a way of life that is pretty much forgotten in ever changing modernised world, a metaphor to life because life is a fight but..? It is a warrior gladiatorial way of life.

"200-300 years ago, this way of life was respected and admired amongst everyone, without any objections."

But now..? You have people like you crying and moaning, so what is Steve Collins wants to fight..? he is a man, he has passed his medical tests! so get a grip. Yes he can be seriously hurt, but so can the 30 year olds, the 20 year olds, so can you or i get hurt! People are being hurt, being killed everyday, these are the risks of life.

Steve Collins is pursuing something that makes him happy, and gives him a purpose, fighters fight! They can't just turn it off and on, they have to be the guys fighting out there.

If it makes him happy, gives him a extra purpose in life! Let him do what he wants to do. You mentioned Ricky Hatton, you asked me whether i saw what happened to Ricky Hatton..? Yes, he lost a fight.

And what..? No shame in that, you are showing me that you don't have a clue what boxing/life is truly about. You can lose but you can still win, that's what living is! Lets Steve Collins live man, let this man live his life! If this man wants to fight, lets this man fight! And whatever happens, that's life! Those are the risks you take.

    And stop crying and moaning.

I'm with PK on this. Let me start with the Flintoff fight. If I wanted to play cricket, and I was selected for the England test side it would be a joke because I'm a nobody. However, if I wanted to play for the local village side, no one would have an issue. Andrew Flintoff was not given a world, European, or even English title shot. He fought at a very, very low level. Entry level. The equivalent of village cricket. So what's the issue? People say he should've fought amateur first. I agree, but then it's a different sport, and Flintoff made his choice to try the pro game. Why should he be denied if he fights at such a low level?

The argument given is that he could get hurt. So could anyone else. When Flintoff fights, the ref is not gonna allow him to take more punishment than he would anyone else. If he takes a clean punch to the jaw there's a chance he gets knocked out, in which case the fight is stopped. Same as anyone else. Can you seriously claim that Flintoff's brain is more susceptible to damage than any other boxers? Because if he's medically fit to box, that's what people are essentially saying. His skill level/defence is irrelevant, because his lack of of skill is gonna be matched by his opponent. They're not gonna throw him in with someone half decent. Usually, when a boxer is knocked out, he wakes up and everything is fine. Very rarely, things go wrong and tragedies happen. Now if Flintoff were to get knocked out, can you seriously say that he is less likely to wake up than any other boxer? Is a tragedy more likely to happen? If so why? See, you can't say that.

I have no problem with Steve Collins being given a licence to box, as long as he's medically fit. He's made his choice. The BBoBC also has no business stopping this. The guy is Irish, nothing to do with the British board.

I don't think it embarrasses the sport, like some claim. That's like saying a football match between reality tv stars embarrasses the game of football. Those who have interest will watch, those who don't won't. It doesn't reflect on the sport as a whole. What really embarrasses the sport is multiple belts, incompetent refs, judges, good fights not being made etc. Not two men who've made their own choice to get in the ring and are medically fit to box. There are fighters in their prime who are playing a dangerous game by dehydrating themselves to make weight. When the body is dehydrated, there is less fluid to cushion the brain, and the chances of tragedy increase.

Exactly. People want to be entertained but are unwilling to accept the ugly side of the sport. Tragedy can happen to anyone. There are young boxers in their 20's who are in more danger than Steve Collins because they dehydrate to dangerously low levels to make weight.

Nobody is crying or moaning, and I've been complaining about how society now views boxing for years. How it gets looked down upon and not given the exposure. But the fact is the sport is crucial in rough areas around the world, time and again I've seen world champions rise from nothing and as the most brutal mainstream sport around, it deserves more respect.

Who here wants this sport banned? I don't know where you have pulled that one from?

Steve Collins is not 30, Steve Collins has not just had a short lay of/rest and then come back. Steve Collins is 48 years of age. 48.

    Just take that in first.

Then just look at the fact, and it is a fact, that he has not fought in a boxing ring for 16 years.

Fighters fight. Correct. But no BBofC in the entire world should condone this and give this man a license to fight. Forget passing medical tests, there is nothing stopping the scenario, where he passes all his medical tests, qualifies for a license, passes all the tests, and in the first fight gets killed. Medical tests at this moment in time, whilst trying to gain a license, mean absolutely nothing for you to deserve a license, especially in this situation with a 48 year old, out the ring for 16 years. Thats what they should be looking at first and foremost not the medical tests.

This aint the Rocky 6 movie, this is real, this is happening.

Fighters fight yes, for money, and thats what never changes, and in a situation like this, this is a sad situation. Where a 48 year old is coming back to fight in a fight against an active fighter relevant 20 years ago.

Even Roy Jones Jr should not be wanting this fight. But they are gonna have it regardless just because of the £ and the $.

As for Andrew Flintoff, I agree with ero a little bit on the "one off"....but I still think it makes the sport of boxing look a bit of a laughing stock, it should never be seen as that. It is a brutal sport, a dangerous sport, where fighters have died in that very ring (kids some of them) every fighter puts their life on the line. "One off".....I'm sorry, but if Fintoff wanted to do that, then it should of been a fun-fun charity fight on red nose day or something, not a REAL fight.

The bloke is 1-0 for f*cks sake. Ranked 29th in Britain.:lol::lol:

At the end of the day most boxing "fans" just want to pay their money and see two fighters beat the **** out of one another and get their moneys worth. In my view, that is the wrong view to take. Most "fans" wouldn't blink twice if one of those fighters actually died......"At least I saw a scrap"......some boxing fans are sick. I said it before.

As long as it's an even contest then i dont see a problem with age. A couple of old boxers lacing up the gloves again and maybe getting another few tv appearances isnt going to destroy boxing or its reputation.

As for Flintoff boxing on the telly, i personally didn't give 2 shits. If you dont fancy it dont watch it. I watched it for a laugh:lol:
The biggest problem in boxing is politics and corruption, not a one off televised Freddy Flintoff slapfest. I will agree it was a bit embarrassing tho.

Like Bernard Hopkins once stated, before he fought Roy Jones Junior for the second time.

"If Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan said hey...."Where gonna play one and one against each other, nobody would be moaning"....

Quit moaning, fighters fight. Boxing has always ALWAYS been this way! Get a ****ing grip.

Boxing throughout history has always been this way, but like i stated before people's views on boxing has change! And Craney by reading your moaning ass crying posts..? You are part of the society who's views have changed.

Agree with everything said by PK and Ero here, in fact they saved me typing more. I have to admit I haven't read all the posts as some of them are to long, boring and repetitive.

I don't think two grown men punching each other in the face is common sense to begin with.

    That's why I love it
