All my mates who watch mma go on about the takedown when they tell me how **** boxing. is Like they say a ufc lightweight could take down wladamir Klitschko easy and then it's over How long does it take to learn the takedown, and more importantly, at what point in the mma training do you develop superpowers?
Also known as, a German Suplex, belly-to-back waist lock suplex -- may not be the most lethal thing ever, per se. But definitely the ****ing coolest.
The superpower part comes in when one fighter knows how to grapple, and the other doesn't. Here is video of Renzo Gracie against former IBF Cruiserweight Champion, James Warring. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFWmQKyReQk This is video of Renzo submitting Maurice Smith: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x9x2x4_renzo-gracie-vs-maurice-smith_sport#.UOuogm_BG8A Renzo was younger than both of these men, but he was giving up around 40lbs in size. Both of these men were credible strikers, but were taken out rather easily. They did not have enough grappling knowledge.
Go to your local high school and get even a moderately good wrestler who doesn't have to be particularly big and you'd be amazed at just how easy it is for him to put you on your ass. I tried this with a friend of mine who was one of our better wrestlers and I had never done it and didn't have a great idea of the efficacy and I literally didn't have time to do anything before I was on my back and there wasn't a damn thing I could do about it (I hadn't yet started BJJ or learned anything about wrestling). If you've never grappled any moderately competent wrestler will put you on your ass very, very fast.
In general, i would agree; but then, i saw Fedor Emelianenko being takedowned.... it was more brutal than the one showed above.... and it was in the heavyweight division... you can even see his neck curving, whit all the weight of his body on it... nothing, the other fighter tried to block him, and he ended up with Fedor doing an arm bar with all his forces... match won, few seconds after. So, it is POSSIBLE to survive even the worst takedown... ...if you have Fedor's chin. Unfortunately i can't find a proper video to link, maybe someone can help
