Great fighter but not testing himself enough and therefore not improving. The guy that beat Corrales is still there somewhere. Hoping to see him again
ha. Sugar ray leonard was great bc he fought hagler, hearns and duran. ali was great for fighting foreman and spinks, larry holmes, joe frazier, etc. pernell was great - he fought guys like trinidad, prime oscar, azumah nelson, buddy mcgirt 2x, JULIO CEASER CHAVEZ and never picked the easiest fight out available oppononets oscar - is great not necessarliy in skill, but bc he managed somewho to fight the best. Tito, bernanrd, shane, floyd, vargas, ike quartey, pacman, julio ceasr chavez, hector camacho, pernell, ssm - is great bc he fought vargas 2x, winky 2x, forrest 2x, oscar 2x, cotto, margarito every fighter has their share of b plus fighters that they have beaten, out of the list of fighters you mentioned above for floyd, i would really give floyd credit for - diego corrales, jose louis castillo, ricky hatton and perhaps washed up oscar. BOTTOM LINE IS THE SKILL IS PERCEIVED TO BE GREAT WITH JUSTIFIABLE REASON, but his resume is certianly the weakest out all the great fighters.
exactly. people thinks he would beat pac, mosley and even williams at 154. the only problem is he is no where the equation of elite welter duking it out for the past 2-3 or 4 years of boxing. i don't say he is scared with any of them but floyd is handling his business properly by managing his "0" very well.
People are making way too much about this sheeet. Obviously, it was a business decision and Shane gave way for much bigger ODLH-Floyd fight. If Shane fought Floyd first and beat him, no way it was gonna be as big as the dela Hoya fight have been, and of course there was not gonna be a dela Hoya fight.
Not an all-timer? He is the greatest of all time at 130lbs. Do you understand the significance of that at all? Before he even left 130lbs he was an all-timer. Even if he had no career beyond that weight he'd be a legend in the sport. Review the resume, watch the tapes.
Mayweather has all time great skills, but not a resume. In my mind he has two, maybe three really solid victories that can't be disputed. The rest of the time he's been lauded for beating guys that any ATG or even any world class fighter should have beaten. For example: I feel that nobody can take anything away from the Corrales fight, (which was a masterful performance) the second Castillo fight and the DLH fight. The rest of his resume though... Gatti, as much as I loved him to death, got stomped on every time he fought someone who was world class and even some guys who were below world class. And he was incredibly shopworn when he and Floyd fought. I mean this is after Rodriguez, Ruelas, Manfreddy, DLH, Robinson I&II, Ward I-III, etc. Hatton was overrated and overprotected from the very start, and looked like crap as a welterweight. Manfredy's biggest accomplishment was beating Gatti and winning the worthless WBU belt. He got beat down every single time he tried to win a real title. Hernandez was in the last fight of his career. Judah is an overrated underachiever who is guaranteed to fall apart late in fights. And what exactly are the biggest names on his record? Going 1-1 with Cory Spinks and barely pulling off an SD against a 38 year old Rafael Pineda and Corley? A UD against Witter? I'm less than impressed. For all his talent, Zab is not exactly a world beater. Baldomir is a journeyman who scraped by Zab and beat a very old Gatti. And that's it. People are talking about Clottey being a **** opponent right now, yet Clottey was leading Baldo on all three cards before getting DQ'd. JMM is a terrific fighter, but has no business fighting as a welter. Hell, he's arguably undersized and maxed out as a lightweight. Philip N'dou. Really? A guy who accomplished jack, (another WBU champion fighting nobodies) and had absolutely crappy technique, this is a name featured prominently on what's supposed to be an ATG record?!! So do we get Isaac Hlatshwayo ready for the hall of fame too, because he beat N'dou 6 months after Floyd did. Augustus has skills, but is an underachieving journeyman as a fighter. Unless someone becomes an ATG for beating guys with just barely over a .500 record. Corley is a scrappy guy who always comes to fight, but the highest he ever really reached was being a fringe contender. His biggest accomplishments are doing better than expected against Zab, Floyd and Cotto, all while still losing to them and a bunch of no names.
a fearless warrior who will fight anybody starting with mosley, margo, williams, cotto, berto and pacqui
floyd is honorable guy, a man of integrity and a true warrior. i will not be surprised if he decides to fight first mosley, marga, williams and other top welters within this year.
Hes not an ATG. He needs at least 2 proper fights at welterweight. Mosley and Pacquiao would probably get him ATG status. He beats everyone up to 160 in my opinion
