500k? Did you get that out of a hat? Diego Chavez got 35k to fight Bradley. Postol got 90k to fight Matthysse.
What do you think undefeated Cuban Yunieski Gonzalez got to fight Jean Pascal in Canada? More or less than 300K?
Which helps illustrate the type of point I was trying to make in one of these threads, where fans determining a given fighter's "worth" for a particular match-up is hardly an exact science. What ultimately determines a fighter's worth comes down to what he and his team decide they think they're worth in any given situation. It will work itself out. In this case, if Ward's team did offer 300k, and Barrera is looking for something more like 500k, they will either reach a compromise or the fight won't happen. If what others are suggesting is true, and Barrera can make more money for facing Kovalev, then he'd be a fool to take the Ward fight. The Kovalev shot comes with 3 alphabet trinkets and the potential to beat the man widely considered the best at 175. So this begs the question, if Barrera can make more facing Kovalev in a bout with higher upside potential, why entertain Ward's offer to begin with? :smoke
I haven't a clue what Pascal or Gonzalez were paid, myself. But I'd be interested in knowing, in the context of this topic. :smoke
exactly, this is just business as usual. Two parties trying to negotiate the best possible deal for their side.
Let's be honest, if Barrera got similar paydays before and Ward who is in need of a good opponent and holds no belt or anything of the sort scoops up what, ~90% of the cash and gives him a mediocre payday, it's not gonna cut it. Ward needs to pay up, concede 100k or whatever it is and just give it to Barrera. Nobody wants to see another Smith or Periban, it does nothing for Ward.
