this is where he needs to work on his accuracy and punch selection at world level this is where he is going to get the stoppages accurate crisp well picked punches rather than the mad flurries

He's no Juanma for offensive prowess. He's no JMM either.

i see almost knowone agrees. sometimes amir selects to fight in a manner that loses accuracy. a high tempo containing style in order to avoid getting hit(kotelnik, maidana) but when amir goes for the kill and starts throwing he has great accuracy. not on the level of manny, marquez or floyd but has knowhere near the experience and sparring sessions they have had.

you cant find openings when someone is completly closed up. he did get through but not always. he still landed twice as many as alexander. it was his intention in that fight to contain kotelnik. keep him at range and out box him. not find his chin and ko him.

    Speed...probably not.

    Accurate? Yes.

Khan probably has the edge on Pacquiao in terms of speed, but I would say Pacquiao is a lot more consistently accurate.

Mayweather also is very fast in terms of single shots, Khan still having the edge...but accuracy...Khan isn't in his league.

(Marquez is a lot more accurate than Khan aswell...but if you're just asking for the combination of speed and accuracy...).

Hmmm… I disagree. He’s a volume hitter who brings his chin up, and flails somewhat. I can’t recall a single time when he “went in for the kill” with any real success except for Salita.

Marquez, Manny and Floyd are accurate for different reasons. Floyd because he’s careful and is never out of position to punch; Manny because he works the pads to punch in tight bunches and avoids swinging wild; Marquez because he’s incredibly well-schooled and throws short, compact punches with little margin for error.

But the common theme is their ring intelligence. They throw the right punches at the right time to the right places. Amir doesn’t have that sort of intelligence, which is very apparent. Some of his offence against Maidana was incredibly amateurish for the amount of fights he’s had.

I don’t see any evidence that he’s an offensive master or particularly accurate. He’s just not.

And he's fast too, especially when he was at SFW. No Manny (but who is?)

your right he isnt as compact and accurate as the guys. his intellegence and positioning needs working on. but i like the fact he has an agressive mentality and the fact he loses a bit of composure and form is all apart of it. i agree he doesnt make the most of his physical attribute though. maybe he will improve.

yeah there all different fighters. wouldnt compare amir to any of them yet. but eventually he will start feeling more comfortable with his style and fighting to his tregnths. you could argue neither floyd manny or marquez have amirs jab or reach and the ability to use these assets to beat opponants. amir has one of the best jabs in boxing.

IMO, he looks better as a disciplined outside fighter who relies on straight shots. But he was hopeless with the right hand against Maidana – a shot Kotelnik never missed against the mini-monster.

But to your point: Juan Manuel Lopez is much more offence minded. His punching form never deteriorates, just his defence. Khan starts flailing wildly about and he stops turning his punches over.

I’m not saying this to pull your point apart, just so you see that Khan’s very gifted but technically very flawed. Roach has done great work with him. Amir’s got great muscle memory and picks up specific moves, but mentally he lacks the composure or comprehension to use it in the ring consistently.

When he hurts an opponent he has no plan for how to finish them – he just wails away. When Lopez hurt Marquez, he went to the body and brought uppercuts up through the guard, before using his right hook to blindfold Marquez and create other openings.

Lopez doesn’t have the same physical gifts that Khan does, but he applies his technique much more intelligently. It’s about how he hurts his opponent, not just how he hits them.

i would have to agree with that. but i will say theres different forms of accuracy. marquez like someone said is compact and lands shots mid to short range as does manny. could either of them land 6 shots from distance with the speed of amir? i will say that pacman is far more composed than amir. he keeps his eyes firmly on his opponants even when he's taking shots and finds the right shot at the right time.

Khans jab is possiblythe most overrated punch in boxing at the mo'. Do people actually watch him fight or just buy into myths?!? In terms of 'pure' boxing ability I haven't been impressed much at all by Khan, although against Kotelnik he proved he could speedily flail at gloves against a fairly negative, straightforward European opponent (who has World class toughness and grit to go with it) but as always, his foot positioning was poor (not allowing him to generate much power) and his offensive variety left a lot to be desired.

The guy who strted this thread just hasn't got much of a clue about 'the sweet science' by the looks of it, with little in the way of analysing ability.

Em... there's only one sort of accuracy. You're either accurate or not.

Marquez is accurate at pretty much any distance: supremely talented counter-puncher (seen him land four-six punch combos on the outside) and extraordinarily good as an in-fighter. Mid-range is where he gets in trouble, because the drops his right when he hooks, but even then he's aggressive and rarely misses a shot.

Manny does his best work at mid-range, but he's pretty effective at long range. The salvos he landed on Maragrito in the first six rounds were stunning. He'd slide into range using the jab, land a straight left, bring a hook to the body at mid-range, follow to the head, step out with a jab and left hand before moving away.

I'd say either of them are better than Khan across the board. You're obviously a fan of the guy, but I think you're confusing fast hands and volume with effective aggression.
