I mean like the way Tyson or Ali are still recognised by people, not just boxing fans, who may not even have been born when they were fighting(particularly Ali) they still know who they are, is the any fighters currently or just retired that will have this in 20 or 30 years. I mean everyone, boxing fan or not know who Ali and Tyson are, i don't think that in 20 or so years people will still know a fighter from the current lot, and i include DLH in that.
    What do youse think?

Of recent vintage - DLH and RJJ will certainly still be talked about.

The Mayweather/Mosley/Pacquiao trifecta all have a chance to reach that kind of enduring mythic status, as individuals (depending on how their meetings go) or as a group.

    Other than that, ?

    I don't have a crystal ball.

If you're talking worldwide Ali and Tyson are still the only two names most people know when you mention boxing to them.

Most people dont have a clue about who Pac,Floyd etc are right now let alone in 30 years time, boxing just isnt as popular as it once was.

That what i was thinking as well, they both need this fight to have any chance of reaching that kind of status.

Nor do I, but the number of names people still talk about in twenty years will be fairly significant.

The Klitschko brothers (for better or worse) have already made their mark and will be part of discussions pertaining to heavyweight history. Lewis, Holyfield, Tyson, Moorer, Bowe, Foreman, Holmes, Ali, Liston, Marciano, etc, etc, etc are all part of normal conversation in the General. The Klitschko brothers will forever be a part of that. So will other major heavyweights (despite the weak division) and some more obscure guys from that weight range as well.

Then there are a slew of other names who would be part of the discourse.

Just think of all the fighters from 1985-1990 whom we still discuss regularly today.

I'm thinking the TS means boxers who will be remembered by the general public, not just boxing fans. Ask an average person who doesnt follow boxing and the first two names they will give you will be Ali, then Tyson, then someone who was big in thier own country.

    Hopkins will still be fighting.

I think PBF, Pac, SSM, and the klits have a good chance also perhaps the winner of the super 6 if the format carries on

At the rate of boxings decline, I doubt anyone will care. Boxing is on the verge of being counted out as we speak. I'm a huge boxing fan, but the sport is nothing more than a cult sport. Who knows a world famous curling champion? Exactly! The sport is on it's last leg and it ain't coming back. We were talking about boxing dying on this site 5 years ago, and it is dropped like a stone from that very low point.
