Is there a boring Henry Armstrong fight? How about a dull Tyson fight?

    Serious question.

I was trying to think of a fighter whose entire back catlogue is exciting, and I couldn't think of a dull fight for either of these two...I mean Tyson has some shitty fights, but even watching something like the McBride fight has a certain sick fascination. How about Armstrong? I know there are fights of his available that I haven't seen, are any of them boring?

Who else is a contender for this honour?

well tysons fight with bonecrusher smith was a bit lackluster, but i think that was because of the fact that smith was in 100% survival mode, you could see flashes of tysons speed and tremendous power throughout the fight though. but with armstrong?? i honestly cant think of a fight that was nothing short of a breath taking.

Depends what you think is exciting really. Many people call Whitaker boring, I don't think I have seen him in a boring fight ever ....

See, I found Tyson-Smith compelling. Tyson is furious and it shows and he's winging in the punches, he forgets his boxing a bit and there's real tension in Smith's trying to survive and Mike's fury. But Smith seems to be the shout overall.

Tyson was in some awful ones.
I dont know if I'd call them "dull", but I sure wouldn't call them a "fight" either !

I too found Tyson-Smith to be a compelling fight.

Sure its not a classic but foresight any Tyson fight was exciting, we knew his power we knew his explosiveness and we were just waiting for the moment he explodes ala Pinklon Thomas and closes the show.

But if I were to pick out one Tyson fight that would probably fit the bill I'd say his fight against Nielson. It was dull.

Tyson-Spinks was a huge let-down at the time for me.
It wasn't even one of Tyson's most explosive punching displays. Spinks folded from some relatively basic punches.
I had a real empty feeling watching that live. The build-up and the preliminaries were long. And the fight wasn't just short, it was too easy.

I wouldn't say "dull" or "boring" as such, but just void.

Tyson/Thomas is awful, as Iron Mike carries Pinky over the under/over...

I agree. This fight is often cited as being boring, and in some ways it is, but there are some interesting clues to Tyson's personality that come out in it.

It's the first fight where Tyson acts out with a foul in his frustration with Bonecrusher's pathetic tactics. I don't think Tyson is frustrated because he is being challenged, but because he wants Bonecrusher to give him a real fight. I think this is part of what gets to Tyson in the Holyfield fights. Holyfield smothers him and keeps him from being able to do his thing, although Holy had the skill to also fight back at the same time, unlike Bonecrusher. But again, I think Tyson's frustrations had more to do with feeling like he isn't being given a "fair fight", than being beaten up. He had such a love and knowledge for the sport, it's like he felt it wasn't real boxing.
