I watch Teddy Atlas and others talk about current fighters and there all time great rankings. They always says the same things about this topic. The old fighters fought a higher level of competition. Well OK. But is there a boxing fight to be made today that could anywhere near like Hearns vs Hagler, Jones vs Hopkins, MAB vs Morales or MAB vs Pacquiao? It's like the only really great fighter today in his prime is Roman Gonzalez and he's a just flyweight. Maybe Ward vs GGG is the only thing that could come close. But if that fight happened people would say 10 years from now that GGG never fought anybody besides Ward who was inactive and that B level fighter Murray, paper champ....
I see Gonzalez-Estrada II as a possible fight of the year at least. Estrada showed great heart, a great chin and great confidence in the first fight, and he is considerably better now than he was then. Admittedly Joe Public doesn't give two hoots about the little men.
Unless it turns out like the Gatti / Ward trilogy ( which it won't ) it will just be 2 guys past their best going through the motions 5 years too late.
There are plenty of fights. 1. Wlad v. Wilder 2. Huck vs Hernandez 3. Kovalev v. Stevenson v. Ward v. beterbiev 4. GGG v. Ward 5. GGG v. Canelo 6. Pac v May v Thurman v Khan v Brook 7. Garcia v Postol v Broner v Mathysee v Crawford 8. Crawford-Gamboa II 9. Rigo v Walters v Lomachenko v Gonzalez 10. Rigo v Santa Cruz
