They do resemble each other quite a bit in styles. Both technically fantastic, with a wide array of textbook punches. Lopez used a bit more movement I'd say.
Same trainer, Nacho Beristain, this guy has a master counter-puncher factory at his gym. He build them both up from young age, thats why they are almost alike in style.
As young prospects training in the same Gym with Ricardo Lopez.....the stance, the mannerisms and the punch selection rubbed off on the both Marquez bros. Raphael Marquez' fights somewhat similar as well. The great Ricardo Lopez must smile and feel proud everytime the Marquez bros. put their skills on display, knowing that some of him rubbed off on those around him in the gym!
Respect to RL, im not sure he gets enough respect, the little guys rarely do, wasnt he unbeaten? And yet you never (ive not seen any mention his name) see his name mentioned with the best boxers of the last 10 yrs etc? Will the same happen to Calderon?
Lopez definitely doesn't get enough respect around here, but to the middle aged Mexicans, he's a boxing genius. He's like an artist in the ring. His movement and his punches so graceful. Lopez would beat Calderon in any style and be the first one to knock him out. That is if Calderun stops running and starts fighting like a real champ would. Finito was too great.
