Is there a fighter that just throws straight punches (no hooks, etc.)

Wlad threw a lot of left hooks in his last fight.

Exception to the rule. . . Mormeck was a huge bum, and once Wladimir had him hurt, and realized he was in no danger, he unleashed the fury of god on him. . .

You'll have a hard time finding more than 5, maybe 10 hooks thrown in majority of his fights.

in his younger days, he used to open up with hooks A LOT more - kinda like he did in the mormeck fight, but only in riskier situations.

    Very interesting thanks.

I wish he'd throw a wider variety of punches. That ratio is what frustrates me about watching Wlad - most of those punches are thrown at guys who being kept out of punching range and therefore can't counter, yet he still holds back with the straights and hooks.

That left hook of his could kill a ****ing Rhino, yet he's so reluctant to throw it. I've no doubt that he could go out in the first round and do what he did in the 4th of the Mormeck fight against the majority of his opponents. Also, given his height I'm sure he could probably knock a shorter fighter up into the rafters with an uppercut, but he only seems the throw those when he has someone in trouble.

    Grrrrrr Wlad. Unleash hell!!!

There was a guy called Terry Marsh back in the 90's I think, no power so boxed from a distance worth a look to see if he fits the bill.

Was blamed for the failed shooting attempt on Frank ****** although never convicted if memory serves.

He only throws it when he knows he is going to land it.

Absolutely agree. . . I'm a very big fan of Wladimir, and I'm not in any way trashing him by pointing out his calculated ratio of punches thrown, but I just wish he wouldn't play with his food so much! UNLEASH THE BEAST! . . . I suppose in a way, it does makes his left hook all the more devastating by barely unleashing it. . . He'll carefully set up each punch off the other: the straight right off the jab, and the left hook off the straight right.

I think if he gets pushed by a guy like Arreola, or Mitchell, we'll see that left hook get uncorked a lot sooner, and a lot more often (if they stand up to it more than once :) )

And definitely! I Imagine a Wladimir backhand uppercut would be nothing short of life-threatening. . . Or, he could use a devastating lead left uppercut to SET UP his straight right hand. He's definitely got fsat enough hands to pull it off from the outside. . . Imagine him blasting his opponents head up from behind their guard with the uppercut, and then straight taking it to the moon with his straight right. . . :bbb

If you have a great jab an good straight right you don't need to hook. Its a defensive offense
