When it comes to having a great resume? Whether past prime/in the infancy of their careers or not, doesn't matter for this thread. The names, basically. But even beyond that, he does have some damned good wins.
What about his knockout over Prime SuperSouthpaw Freak of Nature Corrie Sanders? The way people talk about him here, hes a top 20 heavyweight of all time head to head.
McCall did beat Holmes, old as he was. Lost to Buster Douglas. Wins over Ferguson and Seldon are decent enough, too.
Wow SuzieQ finally made a intelligent comment about something. Corey Sanders is highly overrated. He knocked out glass chinned Wladimir Klitshcko and now Sanders is a hall of famer. Any Rahman and McCall weren't on the same level or fought the same way. Just because they fought a few common opponents doesn't mean they were on the same level. McCall had a great chin, Rahman chin was glass. Wait I guess you people are right they are on a similar level. Neither came into a fight in a great shape, both were head hunters ignoring the body even though neither were murderous punchers. Both are only known because they knocked out the fragile chinned Lennox Lewis.
Care to explain Rahman shrugging off Tua's shots their second fight, and being unaffected to any large degree besides when he was hit after the bell? :think
Have you ever been hit by Tua? So who knows how hard the guy hits. Besides Ruiz who I don't consider world class who else did he knock out? Olev Maskaev? Tommy Morrison took viscious punches from Razor Ruddock but because Lewis, Mercer and Bentt knocked him out people say he has a glass chin. Shannon Briggs is considered chinny because Lewis and Darrell Wilson knocked him out. Now because Rahman didn't get knocked out by Tua that means he has a world class chin now? Foreman, Morrison, Lewis, Bowe, and Frank Bruno are all considered big bangers right? But did they knock out every person they fought? They have all fought people who had less than great chins but they didnt knock them out. Rahman didn't have a really good chin and McCall did but besides that they were pretty similar.
Don Williams, a fringe contender at best, had wins over Ike Williams, Bob Montgomery, Sammy Angott, and I believe a few other notable names as well. Also held a prime Kid Gavilan to a hard fought split decision in a non-title fight. Speaking of Gavilan, Doug Ratford beat him twice. Joe Miceli, who was briefly a prospect, then a journeyman for most of his career, beat Ike Williams (twice), Virgil Akins, Bud Smith, and a host of other notable names from his era as well. Also fought Gavilan to a split decision. Rex Layne holds wins over Ezzard Charles, Jersey Joe Walcott, and Bob Satterfield. Tua has a pretty underrated resume. KO'd Moorer, Rahman, Ruiz, Maskaev, Oquendo, and a few other contenders/prospects in his career.
Tony Tucker. He was a pretty solid guy when he wasnt on drugs. He beat Douglas and Mcall, went the distance with Tyson and Lewis. Hes probably a step above Mcall, but pretty close. For the record, Rahman isnt as good as Mcall, thats for sure.
