My granddad used to tell me how whenever there was a big fight going on when he was growing up, the whole family would listen to the fight on the radio. He remembered the Louis Schmeling fights very well in particular. Anyway, this got me thinking and I’d like to try listening to some fights just on the radio without watching them, for the nostalgia effect if nothing else. Does anyone know of a way to do this online? I know there are lots of podcasts that do fight previews, post fight shows, interviews, etc., but I’m just looking for live fight broadcasts.
I can't think of any and because of the internet I can't imagine anyone doing this. A big part of why this was so prevalent back then was because people couldn't watch the fight at the time so they just listened to updates for it. Now you can just find them online either by streaming live or watching an uploaded video.
Radio 5 Live do live commentary for fights sometimes although I think they only do world title fights involving at least one British fighter or big domestic clashes which have captured the public's imagination. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00f3kfq I think TalkSPORT do too but, again, they focus on the big name British fighters or British world champions. https://talksport.com/boxing https://radiotoday.co.uk/2017/10/talksport-grabs-exclusive-boxing-rights/ Pretty sure some YT channels do live commentary too, more than likely fights taking place over in the US and maybe even ones in the UK sometimes as well.
I just figured it out if anyone cares. On TuneIn radio, there is a channel called “Tha Boxing Voice” and they do live radio broadcasts of all the big fights.
