Is there a way to see what a fighter's rank was when they had a match?

I would like to see what active fighters have beaten the most top 10 opponents. I want to take into consideration The Ring, WBO, WBC, IBF, and WBA's rankings.

There's someone here promoting a site every month or so, that shows exactly that.
I don't know what it was anymore, but it was like premium boxing rankings (after renaming) or something simular.

You can also do it per org, because most have pdf's for every month, going back years.

Okay, that is useful. I assumed that there wasn't a way to look at previous rankings. When I have a day off of work if no one has posted the link to that website you mentioned I'll see how far I can get on doing that myself. Seems pretty tedious so I may quit in the middle.

Not without going through all the years in the sanctioning bodies websites.

I suppose you could go off the boxrec 'score' at the time, its an often crticized system but generally their top 10 isn't far off what everyone else's is.

Any particular fighters/ fights you're looking at?

Mainly I just want to see who has the most wins over top competition. Also, out of their last 5-10 fights who has the highest....total. I'm describing that last part poorly as it is very late and I'm tired, but I think that's still understandable.

One thing I would like to see in particular is to see if the "GGG only fights cans!" criticism even holds any weight at all.

It really doesn't hold any weight.

Anybody who knows anything about boxing know GGG has been fighting the best opponent willing to fight him at Middelweight since he moved to HBO, and to achieve his goal of unifying the titles

I know for a fact Macklin, Geale, Rubio, Murray and Lemieux was all rated by THE RING, I think Stevens and Proska was too.

But going off the Boxrec score thing I mentioned, here is where they would sit in the rankings at Middleweight now, when GGG fought them:

    Proska 9th
    Rosado 8th
    Ishida 26th
    Macklin 5th
    Adama 13th
    Geale 3rd
    Rubio 9th
    Murray 4th
    Munroe 13th
    Lemieux 3rd
    Wade 9th

    Hardly Alexander Brand is it?

The best way would be to have all the old ring magazines handy and check the rankings going into the fight.

Next best is probably using the ring annual rankings database on boxrec. I updated that for a couple of years.

The box rec idea is a decent indicator but no one really takes their rankings seriously.

It holds no weight whatsoever. 7-8 of his opponents have been Ring top 10 when they fought. Off the top of my head Proksa, Macklin, Murray, Rubio, Stevens, Geale, Lemieux. It is simply a parrot line trotted out by groupies of the likes of Canelo and Cotto, who aren't real boxing fans, only know about half a dozen fighters and are trying to defend those guys walking round claiming to be middleweight champions whilst having no intention of actually taking him on.

You can check all of the current top 100 fighters in each of the 17 divisions. The last 20 fights are shown, normally this is the peak/best time of a boxers career. The W means a win against a fighter not in the top 100 at the time of the fight. L D and N are self explanatory. The numbers relate to the ranking of the opponent before the fight. There are also columns that show the highest ranked opponent ever beaten, the highest in the last 36 months, 30 months, 24 months, 18 months and 12 months. These show what fighters have avoided quality opposition in more recent times. The ratings are totally unbiased and based on the man who beat the man.

I think that is cool you are dedicated enough to want to research fights either that involve or don't involve GGG

Facts make make for shorter conversations :deal
Keep in mind that the rank designated is not always truly reflective of the boxer himself:yep

    Have fun:happy

You can also check the pre-fight ranking of the champion and challenger of all the world title fights WBA WBC WBO IBF IBO from 1993 up to 2015 (2016 not updated yet). The rankings are of course independent and not the ones from the respective ABC.
