There was a guy 20-25 years ago that had considerable success over a short period of time in the NY Gold Gloves turning all his fighters southpaw.

Mike Tyson southpaw who fought orthodox. Yes, learning to fight southpaw can be beneficial. For starters, the jab is often considered the most important punch in boxing. If you're orthodox fighting from the southpaw stance, your jab is going to be done with your most powerful and dexterous hand. Also, there are quite a few fighters with cracking left hooks to the body who liked to go southpaw when throwing their body busters, Micky Ward and I believe one of the Ruelas brothers did that quite often. Also, by being able to fight southpaw you could have some versatility that confuses your opponent and also you might be better at managing a hand injury. You can do it but be advised you're going to have to work that much harder for it to pay off for you.
